James Ayling ja8328330120db — Should you read this book? Sure. Engaging story, and it gets better after they get to the aunt's house in the second half. Some of my frustrations? Diana is a very active and athletic woman who rows, runs, and does yoga, but she can't climb stairs in one of the locations of the book? Come ON. It's like she's athletic when the author needs her to be to do cool stuff, but then she gets overcome by inexplicable weakness when she needs to throw in some heat between the two main characters. LAZY. WRITING. Also---the adverbs. God HELP me the adverbs. "She said quietly" "he said, his words clipped" oh PUH-LEASE. Deliver me from adverbs!!!!! Ms. Harkness actually does a great job of introducing her characters and telling you about them. The adverb nonsense is distracting and then ANNOYING as you get deeper in to the book. We stop needing her to explain the character's motivations to us at about page 35, but God bless her, she just keeps KICKING THE HORSE by stating the obvious. This book would probably be at least 1/4 shorter if her editor (WHERE WAS HER EDITOR??) had had a heavier hand. Despite my rant...an enjoyable read. I will be looking for the next installments.
