Totally crap, political bullshit.

Three decades of pre-Revolutionary thought--wit, verve, fervor, poetry, humor, and hysteria. And then there's the politics. Voyage (1833-44), Shipwreck (1846-52), and Salvage (through the 60's). I'd always suspected Stoppard was our Shakespeare; now I'm convinced.

I expected to love this book since I loved the first two (Shiver, Linger) so fiercely. But it so happens that I turned the last page and couldn't help but utter aloud: "Well, that was stupid." The writing was compelling, of course, as Maggie Stiefvater is a gifted author. But the plot of this book sagged with very little to prop it up and the ramp up to the conflict fizzled out before it was even fully formed. Happy endings are generally my preference...or a striking not-so-happy ending when appropriate. But this non-ending was frustrating and I felt sad that the characters I had come to love didn't get their proper send off. I'm left with this question: was the quality of the first two books enough the cancel out the disappointment of the third? And that, my friends, is yet to be decided.

This is where the series starts to get a bit dark and things don't end up all "happily ever after." The upside is we get to meet some great characters - Lupin and Sirius - even if neither of them are still around at the end of the book. The impact they have on Harry's life while they're in it is just wonderful.

3 1/2, nearly 4 stars. interesting, involved plot, many flawed characters, jealousy, family secrets, not a "tess" book

Unprovable. Bunk and debunked but wholly entertaining.

Interesting characters, fun twists and lots of action. Livingston weaves a wonderful fairy tale

Believe it or not, I didn't read this in high school like most people. I really wanted to love Holden Caulfield, but I just didn't. He was angsty, whiny, and indecisive in all the wrong ways.

I have held off on reading Tennessee Williams for many years, in spite of all of the good reviews, mainly because I have never been a big reader of scripts/plays. What a mistake... I saw the movie with Marlon Brando about 4-5 years ago, and was really blown away by the quality of content. But, being a big Brando fan, I basically wrote it off as him carrying the performance. What I was missing was the rich, deep language that Williams uses to paint a picture of mid-20th century New Orleans, which is a character in and of itself. The sad dixie jazz flows in and out of the tiny one room apartment where all the action takes place. You can literally feel the fog settling in over the marsh as the moon shines down to provide, what I imagine, to be the bulk of the lighting for a stage production of this play. It was very easy to revel in the quality of writing put into this play, and I feel foolish for having ignored it for so long. Stanley & Blanche have to be two of the more interesting characters that I have ever come across in a piece of fiction, and they carry the weight of the plot. Their scenes together are so well put together, you can literally feel the tension coming off of the page. I encourage anybody who appreciates a story that is not overly complicated, but VERY well thought out and written to start here. I know that I intend to continue reading Tennessee's other works (probably going to go with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof next.) I don't think anybody would be disappointed.
