Joshua Mallett jmallett642b13 — I have held off on reading Tennessee Williams for many years, in spite of all of the good reviews, mainly because I have never been a big reader of scripts/plays. What a mistake... I saw the movie with Marlon Brando about 4-5 years ago, and was really blown away by the quality of content. But, being a big Brando fan, I basically wrote it off as him carrying the performance. What I was missing was the rich, deep language that Williams uses to paint a picture of mid-20th century New Orleans, which is a character in and of itself. The sad dixie jazz flows in and out of the tiny one room apartment where all the action takes place. You can literally feel the fog settling in over the marsh as the moon shines down to provide, what I imagine, to be the bulk of the lighting for a stage production of this play. It was very easy to revel in the quality of writing put into this play, and I feel foolish for having ignored it for so long. Stanley & Blanche have to be two of the more interesting characters that I have ever come across in a piece of fiction, and they carry the weight of the plot. Their scenes together are so well put together, you can literally feel the tension coming off of the page. I encourage anybody who appreciates a story that is not overly complicated, but VERY well thought out and written to start here. I know that I intend to continue reading Tennessee's other works (probably going to go with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof next.) I don't think anybody would be disappointed.

Stefan Leitner stefancleic037 — This one was Killer! Pun intended. A great detective story. It was a vacation book that I knocked out in two days. Interesting characters and a few good twists make this one that I like to recommend.
