Cole Madison is an American PI living and working in Germany. The plots of these three stories are inventive, fast-paced and the twists and turns keep you guessing. I think Cole Madison is a character that should be around for a while and look forward to seeing more of him.

I started this book on 03/22/2009. I finished this book on 04/08/2009. This book was just okay for me. It got really interesting when the trail of Tom Robinson was going on and toward the end it got interesting again. But other then that it was about following around a little girl and her brother. It is a very racial book so I understand how it was a big deal back when it came out. Overall it wasn't really bad but it wasn't my favorite. I'd probably give it a 2 and a half star if I could.

I read this back in high school and wasn't sure what to expect rereading it. I was struck my the simplicity of the language and how well it works with the philosophies presented.

This was way easier to get in to and read than I expected and of all things, I can't wait to see who ends up together. :) It is an interesting view of how challenging it would be to live when Jesus started His mission.

not bad for a white man writing from the perspective of a japanese woman.

If you are an animal lover, I recommend you avoid this book. I found it too painful to read about the animal experiments and had to skim many parts of the book. Truthfully, I found the author's portrayal of the social world more interesting than the scientific anyway.

It's not unusual that an author's second book, is sometimes not as good as their first. That's not the case with A Thousand Splendid Suns. My star rating is deceptive. Overall I thought this was a strong book. In particular, Hosseini's depiction of family life, violence, culture, and the impact of war are drawn intricately. Where Kite Runner leaves the action of war to the consequences and aftermath, in Splendid Suns, readers see first hand the impact of war and violence. This provides, I think, a more full understanding of the characters' evolution, emotions, and actions. I felt great empathy for the womyn in the novel and was thoroughly engaged. The only downside for me, was the ending - which seemed a bit contrived, and familiar - a resituation of the ending of Kite Runner.

Basically liked this book, but I'm not sure if I'll read anything more by this author. Like the book I just read before this one, it has a character that is so self-centered, so convinced she knows more than anyone else and is a top amateur detective that she is bordering on unlikable. I'm sure the author is trying to be amusing. I guess I just don't find these kind of characters funny - they're annoying to me. The mystery was good and there were other characters I find more likable, so it wasn't a disaster for me. But the warning signs apparently are there for me.

I learned that drinking from a water fountain is a big deal for some people.

The way in which the author ties in this collection of short stories is fabulous. Almost every genre of writing, including historical fiction, mystery, and science fiction, is covered.
