The title says "Twilight Cove Trilogy" but could find no mention of this being a trilogy on the book itself. I found this story to be a light and fun read that carried me through to the end.

A brilliant book! Jane Austen knew the female psyche very well, which is a major reason her books are still so relevant and popular today, even though the lives of women in the Western world, are very different from what they were two hundred years ago. What drawbacks does such a classic have? The English of the novel is that of two hundred years ago, which can be challenging. Also, Austen did a lot of narration- telling rather than showing. Somehow, Austen was masterful (or would that be "mistressful"?) enough that these anachronisms only serve to add to the character and charm of the book, and make it even more timeless.

this book goes right along with the rest of the Rachel Morgan series. it's just as good as all the other ones. if you like Charlaine Harris i highly recommend this series... it's great paranormal fantasy. :)

3.5 stars A lot of people say this is an absolute staple of the fantasy genre--that it's a must read, and a book that surpasses a lot of others. I don't really agree with all of that necessarily. I liked it, that's for sure. The writing was excellent, and I have no critical comments to say about the style, prose, etc. However, my main criticism of this book is that it was just plain boring about half the time. I read it in spurts because I would come across an interesting part and then fade into a long series of events which, though they were nicely fit into the storyline, just weren't engaging enough for me. Even the end wasn't quite that interesting, though there was more plot advancement going on compared to the rest of the book. Though I obviously don't condone killing, you would think that a book titled "Assassin's Apprentice" there would be, well...assassinations. This seemed more like the PG version of a book about an assassin, and I found myself wanting/expecting a PG-13 version if that makes any sense. Pretty much the main character is trained to be an assassin, first without knowing exactly what he was doing, and then, when he did understand, the reader doesn't get to witness anything, and all the action goes on behind the scenes in a very anti-climactic way. Also, since the reader can't personally view what the character is going through, it had the unfortunate side effect of damaging my relationship and connection to the character. Overall, the writing was clearly excellent, but since the book wasn't engaging at all for me, I come out with a slightly above average rating.

Decent. OK. I probably wouldn't have picked it up had it not been for book club but it kept my interest and was mildly funny at times.

I liked this book. It started out a little slow, but once it gained momentum...the reader got a big POW! It is one of those books that sticks with you, which is always a good thing.

Yet I still do not see the message that Dickens is trying to convey in this book I find it very interesting. Although the book is slow at times something strange and unexpected always comes up in the plot. I won't say any now but, in short, about everything that can possibly get connected, gets connected. I find that there are to many "coincidences" in this book to be realistic, but it is still enjoyable. The characteristic about the book that I liked was how Pip grows as a character throughout the story, he starts out young, innocent and nieve, but as things happen in his life he adapts to all of them. All of them except for one. The fact that Estella will never love him. He has never been okay with this fact and never will be. One thing I didn't like about this book is the overbearing descriptions, some I thought were just unnecessary and others too long. Besides some personal prefrences this book has been interesting and enlightening.

From this book it's clear John and Diane Rehm have had a difficult marriage, but I have a great deal of respect for people who make the choice to work through something incredibly hard because they believe in the possibility of something good and better on the other side. Their thoughtful approach to their life together is instructive and says a lot about who they are as individuals. It's also interesting to get a close-up, first-person view on the anatomy of a particular marriage between two very different people.
