The teenagers reactions to having a person they known murdered and torn in two infront of them was very weird- they didnt seem to really care going to school the next day and sharing cover stories like the worst that happened was them skipping third period.. .. no empathy or anything.. altho the detail was good the emotions of these teens are cold and not realistic.. Also i kept on thinking it was weird that so many ghosts went around killing people- just weird- if it happened that often you'd think the general population would know about it.. Some major plot points that never got explained- like why did Anna not kill Cass? And the gross romance between him and Anna felt forced- kinda like insta love- but gross insta love..

Didn't finish. Got about a fifth of the way in and got tired of reading about all kinds of details but not having the story go anywhere. Skipped to end, and discovered that after six hundred some pages, nothing much more happened. Though I imagine there were lots of details.

I particularly liked the short story "Germans at Meat." She captures a vegetarian's horror at sausage to a tee, as well as the jingoism and superiority that Germans and British each had at the start of WWI.

I had started reading this book before and gave up on it. But I decided to give it another try. It was ok, nothing super. It is set around Halloween, and I love Fall, so thats why I wanted to read it, but I just didn't get the cozy Fall feeling of the book. And Phyllis still annoys me. She just seems mean. And she and Sam just need to hook up and get it over and done with. In this book, the rude president of the PTO ends up dead, and since everyone hated her, everyone is a suspect. The PTO group asks Phyllis to solve the case of who killed her. And since retired women in their 60s have nothing better to do, she sticks her nose in everyone's business and solves the murder. Not my favorite book, but I do like some of the others, so I'll keep reading the series.

The book is nine chapters long, but each chapter is broken into much shorter sub-sections: I think this is supposed to make Borgman's arguments clearer and easier to follow, but her writing is already pretty clear, and the combination of short declarative sentences without much linking between them plus short sections made the book feel very choppy and dry to me. Still, there are interesting bits: I especially liked chapter 5, "The Discontinuity of Scholarly Publishing," which talks about how the growth of digital publishing (formal and informal) is changing things. Her final point seems to be that we need to think about where we want to end up: information, she argues, is the most valuable part of scholarly information infrastructure, and the value of the information and the infrastructure can both be enhanced if we focus on making an infrastructure for information, rather than just an infrastructure of it.
