Merak Ediyorum Da Güneş Neden Doğar? (Ciltli) - Brenda Walpole TrendKitaplar Kütüphanesi

** spoiler alert ** To begin with, this is the first book I've read by Suzanne Collins and based on it alone, I can assure you, it will not be my last. At least, not if they're as well crafted, beautifully written, and all around gorgeously executed. Its one of those few novels that have come into my life that have been un-put-downable. Yes its a made up word but this book is worthy of having praise thrown at it and words made up to praise it so. Unlike the whimsy in the Harry Potter books, or the underlying mystery of them, this book relies more on a very charismatic character, Katniss Everdeen. I don't think I've ever fallen more in love with a novel's protagonist (Ron Weasley and Peter Pan as well as Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes most readily come to mind). Well Katniss is up there with them in any event. Despite her flaws, and her all too human emotions to which she so readily succumbs, its hard not to root for this character when she's pitted against such horrible odds, and such a despicable enemy as the state of Panem. I can't say much about President Snow, as he's barely mentioned at the end of the book, but he's clearly going to be a thorn in Katniss' side. But the way the story is plotted and paced are brilliant. At no point does the book really lag or slow down the action. It seems that every chapter has you going from one scene to another in a series of exciting new occurrences or revelations driving the plot forward brilliantly and keeping you entertained. Katniss, as I've mentioned is a wonderful protagonist, flawed and a bit fatalistic but a lovable underdog who doesn't whine about her fate too much, but rails against it just the same. If I have one complaint against the book, and this is a spoiler in case you missed the spoiler warning before, it is that all the deaths in the arena seemed contrived to a degree that clearly shows the author was trying to keep Katniss' hands clean of any bloodshed. Yes, she killed that one boy but that was the one death that was quite honestly most acceptable. It was in anger and retaliation for what he had done. Everyone else who dies by her hands its either indirectly or through chance. I would have liked Katniss's hands a little dirtier in the games, its perfectly understandable given that its your life or theirs. How would she have handled that? Could she live with the idea of killing someone else? But clearly the answer is yes, and not the direction the author wanted to take the story in. As I say, its a minor quibble I have, which just happens to make the book a little less realistic but not in any major way that detracts from the sheer pleasure of reading something so thought-provoking, scary and prescient. Of particular interests to me were the capitol people and their behavior towards all the games, the contestants and such, to live among such decadence and be inured to it all, or callous or ... it speaks a lot about rich societies, the media and how it plays us and how the people play it in turn feeding us fictions that we are suppose to believe as fact, unlike say how a book of fiction clearly works. To quote Alan Moore, "Truth is a well-known pathological liar. It invariably turns out to be Fiction wearing a fancy frock. Self-proclaimed Fiction, on the other hand, is entirely honest. You can tell this, because it comes right out and says, 'I'm a Liar,' right there on the dust jacket." In a lot of ways, The Hunger Games is very much a book about truths, and that along with its well written, well paced plot and lovable main character is one of the reasons I think people will be talking about this book in a hundred years.
