My Review: What is Stella going to do about her nervous tummy? The Dragon Realms Talent Contest is tomorrow and she is worried that she will toot fire and stink up the place and ruin her chances of winning. Her friend Allen decided that they should practice until she is no longer nervous. But her stomach gurgle-gurgled and BRRRT! But Allen had a solution, the next day he brought Stella a platter of blueberry muffins. Did the muffins help Stella stop farting and win the completion? Stella had a good friend in Allen who kept on encouraging her. This story will help children believe in themselves that no matter the situation they can overcome it. Just make sure you have a good friend that would stand by you no matter what even if your fart stink….LOL! The bold and colorful illustrations by Jack Foster help with the story. I highly recommend this book for your children’s library and for classroom reading. FTC Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion in any way.

I enjoyed this snapshot of early pioneer life. It shows some of the discrimination the Native Americans faced (minus the violence), and has a good overall message. Although Sarah and her father aren't "able" to pronounce their Native Ameican friends' names and dub them "Tall John" and "Mary" and Sarah's mother is less than happy to find that her daughter has been left with "savages", I think the characters' behavior is true to the time period. I would recommend it to 2nd and 3rd grade readers. Girls will enjoy the strong female main character and see themselves in her. Boys may need a little encouragement. There is brief mention of Christianity and the bible, but the book is not overtly religious. With some discussion, I think a child could come away having learned something about history as well as tolerance, trust, courage and acceptance of cultural differences.

A mini-masterpiece, your only regret about reading this book is that the experience is over so soon! And this version is the best for going back to the roots without all the King arthur tie-ins. Add that to Rosemary Sutcliff's beautiful writing, and this is one of the most epic, passionate and heartbreaking tales you will ever read. The original Romeo and Juliet, it will not dissapoint.

I loved Kostova's Historian. She's a great descriptive writer, making you taste the food and the air and the places where she takes her characters. When I picked this up, I felt good about it - another mystery designed to put you in the minds of the character and challenging you to understand their motives, their history; another original piece of fiction that takes you on a winding road through the interconnected lives of different people across time. But after 100-200 pages in, I quit. There was too much unnecessary sexual innuendo. I didn't want to put that crap in my mind for another 400 pages. It wasn't worth it to me. So, like a terrible, treacherous reader, I read the spoilers to satisfy my need to know how it ended; then I peaced out.

Thank God people like Bill McDonough and Michael Braungart exist and share their knowledge. Cradle to cradle seems like the smartest vision of what our generation and the ones to come should aim at doing in society of consumerism. I am myself a person who recycles, but I never thought about the "downcycling" effect entailed by most of today's recycling processes. The cradle-to-cradle approach proposes to rethink from scratch: - what constituents should be put in the very products we consume every day, so that we can throw away things without causing trouble to the environment (which would be fun as well) - the conception of buildings so that they actually generate more energy than they consume + so that the people working in them enjoy being in their offices -- as opposed to dark, artificial, dull ones. Clearly a very interesting book, in the continuation of ones such as Silent Spring from Rachel Carson... Highly recommended!

This was my favorite in the series. The idea of the waste lands stuck with me... somehow, I see them forming even in the world around me. There are places where the desert is being eaten by weeds and fire and turning into a warped version of itself... I doubt Stephen King knew anything about this, but somehow it seemed relevant. Also, I really enjoyed Lud, for whatever reason.

A very good, light summer read. The family described was so unbelievable that they must be based on a true Irish-American family pretending to be Italian!

Good stuff. An interesting exposé on the self-defeating system of institutionalization, the over-medicating that takes place, and the real struggle to heal oneself.

Rhy's fictional history of Bronte's crazy lady in the attic is a creative literary exercise, and here becomes a beautiful story in its own right. It has even encouraged me to begin Jane Eyre again...
