I could have done without the afterword by John Zerzan. Primitivists writing the closing thoughts on a fictionalized account of labor strike, anti-police brutality demonstration, a riot, a bombing and the legal aftermath and wrongful imprisonment and execution of anarchist labor oranizers... turns my stomach.

While still a good historical novel, I felt the ending in this one let down the development. Still, the idea of people trying to change the past (and apparently even succeeding on occasion!) makes for a good story. I hope the last book in the series reveals more about the mysterious Weaver!

I LOVE THIS BOOK! This is the book that I will be recommending to everyone in the near future. It tells the story of a community on an island in the English Channel during WWII. The island is occupied by the Germans. When a group of friends were caught outside after curfew, the literary society was created as a ruse. Now they had to have meetings. The unexpected bonus was how books and reading sustained them through this trying time.
