I find Douglas Coupland's work to be very hit and miss, and was expecting for this to be a miss after hearing some poor reviews from friends, but I actually really enjoyed it. The family was dysfunctional in comic proportions, yes, but I really responded to the real affecftion and sweetness in it and found it quite touching.

This was the book and author mentioned in my Great Grandma's family tree book of us Crichton's. It was 1969 and it had just been published so the family tree has a blurb about it. I said I'd keep this in the back of my mind because maybe someday he'd become famous!I was in 8th grade at the time. This was the first book I read by Michael because of that connection. I really enjoyed it as a light sci fi thriller. I recently found the John Lange books he'd written under this name at this same time period and plan to read them as they had great ratings on the paperbacks

The whole time I read this novel, I had this incredibly powerful sense of Dejavu, like I read this book before. Maybe I did and forgot when lol. The story was so familiar to me and I felt like I knew all the charecters perfectly. Lovely book, I love the language the writer used you can totally feel the britishness (if that's a word lol) Same writer as Coraline (another novel I wanna read) so yeah it was a good read =P Nothing incredible or powerful, but a lovely and sweet story.
