I really like Charlie Brooker. Not the extent some people seem to, who have taken him up as the only sane man in the asylum but I have to admit he does get under your skin.(Well lookie who’s trying to pretend he’s better then the humdrum. Bet you’re reading it “sarcastically”.) SEE! Right there. After reading this book and/or watching the show your self-deprecating sarcasm will take on Brooker’s voice. It’s weird. Anyhoo, this is a collection of articles which are simply Brooker getting to snark at television. A bit of added humour is your dramatic irony of knowing that much of what he rails such as reality TV have got even worse. That said, the fact that much of the articles will you going “I...Yep. I remember that show...Thanks for bring memories of THAT back.” Pointedly, a comment he made provoked death threats from America which goes to show that 1) People don’t get sarcasm 2) What Brooker says can sometimes come off as a bit too harsh. So expect a quite cynical and humorous look at television.

When her mistress offers Elisa youthful fledglings what may be their only hope of surviving. Elisa jumps at the chance to save her young charges. Elisa dusts off her grief and heads into the unknown as only a person of servitude would know how. Malachi, a Native American Indian before he was made a vampire, is known for his work in rehabilitating feline predators. Malachi’s understands better than most, what it takes to survive. However, even the king of the jungle knows when he’s met his match. And Malachi’s is about to meet his when Elisa enters his camp and proves she isn’t afraid of his roar, or his bite! With so much riding on how these next few weeks, emotions are running high. Elisa and Malachi are blindsided when they discover it’s not just the fledgling’s survival that’s at stake. As passions are opened and desires become more than just a moment shared between them, Elisa and Malachi are hurled into the world of vampire politics. Something neither has any way of preparing themselves for. Now the only thing that may save Elisa and Malachi is to give into something even more dominant than a vampire…Love. Review: Hill has done it again, thoroughly knocking me on my ass with the latest installment in her vampire series, Vampire Instinct. If asked why, my answer would be simple. Vampire Instinct is a contradiction in terms it is as rough as it is soft and when the philosophical and spiritual aspects clash they fight for dominancy almost as much as the characters do. Of course, I’d be remiss if I failed to mention that Vampire Instinct is so scorching hot, you might want the fire department on speed dial to put out any spontaneous combustion that might happen while you’re reading. Vampire Instinct is just another example of Hill’s talent as a novelist. Although the story is set in 1954 the plot is timeless, because it provides more than just entertainment, it presents itself as a literary novel as well. Hill is spot on once again with writing that is exceptional. Her writing is complimented with characters that are fully developed, coupled with scenes so vividly drawn they become a character themselves. Within this story you’ll find there is a lesson to be learned, as it touches on the social etiquette of the era. Look also for another message to be conveyed, moral and otherwise, that will be as important a hundred years from now as it is today. That the real malevolence is when hate and prejudices are given enough fuel to gain strength, because evil has no bias as to whom it enlists. However, what will keep the reader riveted to each page is the emotional turmoil that, Malachi and Elisa (especially Elisa) have to endure; just to get them to where they need to be. The turmoil is almost palpable as the pages turn, so will the reader be absorbed in their emotions. Tears will form from so deep inside it will feel like a damn broke, taking with it not only the reader’s heart, but their soul, as well. Not even the vampires Hill writes about would be able to resist getting carried away in the steam of emotions that this story brings. What else does Vampire Instinct bring? Vampires so enthralling your heart will be racing – check Sexual tension- check Romance (notice I put the sexual tension first)- check A bit of horror- check Humor (witty humor even)-check Sex…(Oh yea and Hill can throw down some of the best, most erotic sex scenes I have ever read) -check Tortured hero- oh mama…I mean check The perfect erotic paranormal romance – check!!! ~Barbara Mazzuca

This is a cute little photo book. I was hoping there would be text of some sort to provide context for all the pictures, but since these are found photos there's nothing written about them at all. I thought it might be a good YA book for reluctant readers, and while I think kids/teens/everybody would enjoy it, it's not really a book to get someone reading. The text consists of a single introductory page, and to be honest I found it kind of insufferable. Oh well.

A story about becoming a writer in 1939 L.A., with a sad, quirky, and generally agonizing romantic relationship thrown in. I would recommend this book to anyone who's seriously thought about becoming a novelist, or anyone who's curious about what it was like to be a young, struggling writer in L.A. in the 1930's.

(guess what? I am shocked too), si mas Gagah kecelakaan di perjalanan pulang. dan tak tertolong lagi. dan bagian yang sedihnya (kok ga nangis?), ternyata mas Gagah udah nyiapin kado buat Gita, sebuah gamis dan jilbabnya. nah, cerpen niy bagus banget sebenernya dibaca sama ABG yang lagi bingung nyari jati diri. banyak tho di luar sana yang bingung bawa dirinya kemana. tema yang diangkat sederhana, tentang hijrahnya seorang ABG, tapi kemasannya cantik. in suka ceritanya yang sederhana tapi sarat makna.

Jonathan Franzen creates an intelligent, witty critique of American family relationships, the bourgeoisie, and middle American backgrounds. What makes his writing so unique, is his ability to perfectly craft and exciting novel by smoothly intertwining the lives of multiple main characters he is able to bring to life with anecdotes that will have you cringing, sighing, or falling out of your chair laughing. Franzen uses sharp wit and dry humor, in the way an author like Zadie Smith employs keen sensitivity, to paint his portrait of complex family relationships. For an excellent novel, sharp social commentary, and a book that will never let you look at your Midwestern family the same way again... The Corrections will deliver.

A little slow in the beginning. Overly descriptive? I really like how he showed how meth could come into the communities. The big pharma, immigration, ag stuff was fascinating. Though, the tangetial information about his buddies from Olewein (mildy interested with any reference to the Alma mater, but could care less if nathan told his parents about his girlfriend) could have pertained more to, I don't know, meth?!?

This novel is not only cleverly plotted and told, but also surprisingly moving. It brings to mind his play Copenhagen.
