The series is getting a little tired, as most do. Somehow backwooks North Carolina and a measles epidemic isn't as compelling as the Rising or the Clearances, but that's the way it goes. I'm also not as taken with the next generation, but I'm still in this for the ride.

** spoiler alert ** ok my first Bdsm book and it was interesting to say the least. I dont necessarily agree with what the author is saying or implying in this book but the story was hopeful at the end. I would say the island was alarming and it was my second real Dom/Sub reading experience but somehow it always shocks me I cant say why I guess for this one because this was sad in a way. Glad I read it because it was a good intro into this world.

This was one of my favorite books growing up and I reread it every time I come across it (I have a special place for all my childhood books so they won't be as subjected to the "elements"... and my shoddy housecleaning techniques) which is about every three years. I have to say, I still like it just as much each and every time I read it!

Definitely not an easy read. Some beautiful imagery and some delightfully eccentric characters. But hard to follow, on purpose. Definitely made the point about chaos and how people create it actively or passively, but still . ..

I <3 Cat & Bones, they are my favorite paranormal pair! One Grave at a Time was better than the last book in the series, but still lacked Frosts usual spark. Maybe because Cat & Bones are secure in their relationship it lacks the edge it once had? Also missing is the humor I am used to from the couple. Despite those things, it was still better than most books. Ian is still alone which means he will probably be next to find his soulmate, if only it were that easy! Tyler, the medium was a good addition to the team. He is only human, but keeps up with the group well. *********SPOILERS********************** For my memory (: Fabian has a girlfriend ghost, Elisabeth. She is over 500 years old, and was burned to death by a witch hunter that she has spent her undead life trying to destroy. He died at her hands, but has spent his life as a ghost tormenting other women. He picks out three victims every year, and is able to manifest in the flesh that one day a year. He tortures the women, rapes them, and then burns them to death as well. Elsabeth wants Cat's help to destroy him. The meet up with Tyler, the medium and he becomes part of the team. Eventually they are able to lock him in a kind of ghost prison, and everyone goes on their way. A prick named Madigan, vampire hating, pencil pusher, worms his way into the compound, and into Tate's position. He has it out for Cat for some reason. As if all that isn't enough, Cat's uncle is still walking as a ghost, and he hates Madigan for reasons he won't give Cat. They get fed up b/c his secrets put them in danger, and tell him to spill or take a hike. He takes a hike. Cat's mother left her job at the compound when Madigan told Cat she wasn't welcome to come back. At the books end, Madigan is still in charge of operations, and Don is still not on speaking terms with Cat.

It is a strongly political story. Two countries are on the verge of war. Two princesses are fated to save the smaller one from the monstrous one. The oldest is pledged to marry the God King of Hallandren. Their father sends the youngest instead. It turns out to be the right choice, but the older sister is determined to save her younger sister from the King, stealthily from within the city. I highly recommend the story. I like the Breath of life, because breath is life-giving, and it does enhance the strength and perception with greater cultivation of oxygen flow. In our lives it can be enhanced naturally (through things like yoga and breathing exercises). So I thought it was a cool “magic” to use. There are some moral questions regarding the use of extra breaths in the story. There are still flaws, but the strengths easily outweigh them. It can be a little hard to take a book seriously when it prominently features princesses whose hair changes color depending on their moods, but the book actually manages to make a silly effect into a genuine weakness. Some of the plot outcomes are predictable, especially for readers familiar with Sanderson’s love of tying everything together in the end, but other twists are truly shocking, particularly once the comic relief is cut off during the last third of the book. The constant tension eventually starts to wear, but the developing drama is compelling. One of the great things about the book is the huge number of twists to the plot. Plot twists and character twists and seemingly small parts waiting for their time in the spotlight. Most impressive in a genre dominated by series that drag on as long as people keep shelling out for the books: Sanderson knows how to wrap things up cleanly. He spins a world that’s easily complex and mysterious enough to warrant sequels, but prefers to end it climactically, answering many of his biggest questions, while leaving others to the imagination.
