"I want to live in this book. What is the great appeal of loft beds and walk-in closet offices and tiny nook nurseries?" - Becky, Teen Librarian Reserve a library copy!

I love all of the people in this book. Except maybe the banker son. And I love the dog.

After reading the book jacket I wasn't expecting the books in this series to have any connection. I thought they'd be separate fairy-tale retelling's, so I was happy to be surprised. I loved the characters and found them more likable than those in Sister's Red. I like the retelling of the fairy tale and didn't mind "Hansel and Gretel" being pulled into the world of Sister's Red. The crossovers were enjoyable but I feel like you don't have to have read Sister's Red first to still enjoy this story. The prologue was probably my favorite part!! It was fast, scary, and pulled me right into the story. It left me tense every time I picked up the book up to read after that. I loved that I was always guessing and I loved how I felt what the main character, Gretchen, felt with trust and wanting to like someone. I thought it was written very well. I'd give this 4.5 stars and I'll definitely read the next one!

My girlfriend's daughter Datie dubbed this book, "Nuns of Doom." I must add that I got this for free at a yard sale, and I wished to read it because I was taught by the Benedictines and the Dominicans back in grade/high school in Montana. Some of those women were cruel, most were good teachers, all seemed to have some aura about them, and in retrospect they also were struggling with some existential issue or other. Well, this book gives somewhat of an insight. As a recovering Catholic, my impression is that they are deluding themselves if they want a closer relationship with God, but they do seem to value the camaraderie and shared spirituality (whatever that is) despite the wide variances among the orders/lay groups. Glad I read it, took me FOREVER, don't plan to encourage my granddaughter to join.

would have loved it, if not for the massive horse abuse at the end. it really wasn't needed.
It has a nice twist at the end. Beautiful descriptive writing, lovely plot and it gave me a few things to think about but I'd already gone over most of them before so there wasn't much excitement as going over something for the first time. Nothing negative to say about it only it didn't hit a particularly strong cord with me. Some books are like that, they do almost everything right and someone still finds a reason not to love them.
Tolkien's dense and elaborately constructed world draws you in and makes you want to know more, and this book is rather like a primer on Middle Earth. The language here is often consciously a little antique, the sentence structure is as well. It's the mode of storytelling of a great and epic Saga. In many ways, that is what this is. While not as captivating and quite lacking the drive of his more famous works, true enthusiasts will find this book a delight to read.
