Even though it is a work of fiction, you've got to love history and biography to appreciate this book. I do. Usually, however, I cringe at traditional memoirs. This is different. The author did, in fact, interview a geisha, but he re-tells the story poetically. The style carries the story more than any conventional memoir I've ever read.

Enjoyed this book. I did find it confusing at times trying to keep track of all of the characters and relationships. There was also parts that seemed to move too slow. I did find it intersting how all of the characters carried guilt and blame over what happened. I also liked how all of the friends lives were intertwined. It made me think about how much our actions impact each other, about the secrets people keep and what goes on behind closed doors.

I love this series! I can't get enough of this world. I love the twists and turns Chess finds herself in. It's so intense. And Terrible...what an incredible man...definitely can't get enough of him. I have to start the next book now. I have to know what happens!

I am just not a Hemingway fan. Though I might try The Sun Also Rises. Sarah said it was pretty good.

I love this book! It is such a simple story, but very powerful. Beautifully written and wonderfully told. Tree-ear is such a loyal and persistent character; I literally cried when he found out about Crane-man. It is fascinating to me that Linda Sue Park based this story on one of Korea’s most treasured vases called, the “Thousand Cranes Vase”. This book left a lasting impression on me and I will definitely read it again and again.

Over spring break, I read The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. After hearing a lecture on part of the novel, I decided to read it. Gregor, a travelling salesman, wakes up one morning transformed "into a monstrous vermin(687)." Through the novel, we see Gregor's plea for recognition from the family. His transformation brings distress among the family because he is the only working man in the house among his father, mother, sister and himself. The family is then forced to find work. In the end, Gregor eventually dies but the family lives on. We find that the metamorphosis was not that of Gregor, but that of the family. This book is closely related to Franz Kafka's life. The novel is like an autobiographical fiction. His fathers demands on him as a child are seen throughout the novel. I personally didn't enjoy the book that much. It was difficult to connect to. However, the irony in the novel is extremely interesting.

Always a keen and creative observer, Gladwell does not fail to at least find some topic that anyone can like in this collection of his best work. Find out why FBI profilers are overrated, why some people panic when others choke, and so on.
