Suite à une envie de comics sans super-héros, j'ai jeté mon dévolu sur The Unwritten, avec en souvenir une bonne critique de ComicsMarvel le concernant. Qu'en est-il au final ? Sous un graphisme sans plus, qui accompagne l'histoire sans la transcender (à la manière de Y Le Dernier Homme , on tombe sur une histoire à plusieurs niveaux. Le premier raconte une histoire où le fantastique vient pourrir la vie d'un gars normal, un peu à la Neverwhere. Agréable, cette partie nous laisse en plus sur un surprenant cliffhanger. Le second niveau est plus complexe, et mêlé au premier. On y parle de Conteurs, de l'influence des histoires sur l'Histoire, de la magie qu'elles recèlent. Tout cela m'a un peu perdu, je l'avoue, tout comme le dernier chapitre sur Rudyard Kipling. L'ayant lu en fin de soirée, c'est peut-être la fatigue qui m'a fait survolé certaines pistes. Je tenterais sans doute une relecture avant le tome 2, histoire de voir où tout cela part, et si je poursuis encore la série.

i didn't think this was as good as the hype made it out to be. however, it was an enjoyable read. and whenever i see a rat in the subway, i always wonder whether the main character ended up saving the right one from the tracks.

This was Dark and I felt like it ran on at parts, but it was well written in regards to the detail of the characters. This book left me conflicted. At times I wanted to cheer on the characters, and at other times I wanted to shake them in anger.

This was a great book, with great writing style and great characters. Michaels did a particularly good job of giving each of the heroes a clear voice. Matt was really snarky and Evan was really grounded. The kids were written well, as were all the other secondary characters. I was invested in this story and enjoyed the ride. This was a fun read and I look forward to reading more from her. My only complaint: I'm kind of anal when it comes to POV. I hate erratic shifting POV - believe me, I know how difficult it can be to be balanced and consistent when writing in third person. But you just have to. You can't spend most of the book from one or two people's POV and then suddenly jump to someone new. To be fair, I actually kind of liked it in this book; she did a good job of getting into each person's head and it was nice to see the story from all of those angles. But it still kind of irked me on that fundamental level, just on principle. There were also some minor grammar errors (mostly punctuation) that probably shouldn't bug me, but I just think if you're writing for money, things like that are inexcusable. This probably won't bother anyone else; like I said, they were very minor. I'm just kind of a grammar Nazi. I'm trying to work on it. :)
