I read this book because it was recommended by the bookclub I am part of at work. When I started to read it, I realized this book is for a younger age group but it was great to read nonetheless.

I'm such a sucker for Depression era circus stories, and this one has it all. A few weeks ago, we were in New York and went to this crazy beautiful club called Moto. The owner is a set designer by day, and you can really tell. It's hard under the BQE, in a rickety old building with only a small "moto" etched into the door. Inside, it's like water for elephants came alive. dimly lit with hanging, bare light bulbs, tiny tables bumping awkwardly into each other, wine served in jelly glasses, and even an accordionist sitting on a stool playing French ditties. Truly magical - and a place you could imagine contributing to the jake walk epidemic of an earlier era.

Upon awakening, Brynn is met with the knowledge of her demon ancestry and worldwide destruction potential. And if that wasn't enough, the kidnappers she thought were superheroes from a covert branch of the government are actually beings from myth and legend... and they've been sent to kill her. The world that Ms. Lario created has a simple complexity that is easy to visualize and follow as these demon brothers band together for the good of the world and the ones they love. While reading the story I was very appreciative of the various surprise plot points that kept my attention and never let the story become too predictable. Who would've thought that upon our hero and heroine first meeting he would haul off and punch her in the face. Quite a memorable first impression for the heroine indeed, which is what Ms. Lario has created with this action-packed, daringly sexy story. The heroine, Brynn, reads memories embedded in inanimate objects, which is what initially drew her toward art and her eventual career. Her other supernatural ability of life-force draining, came at a time when she needed most and is a haunting survivor's tale. Both abilities seemingly came out of nowhere and have helped shape her slightly introverted personality. The reader's first impression of Brynn is as her self-described “loner”, but over the course of the story Brynn's inner-fierceness is awakened, redefined, and projected in her actions to take control of her destiny. Monumental confidence changes take place on both a personality and sexual level, which serve to connect the reader and Brynn as she embarks on this journey. The hero of the story, Keegan, is your typical tall, dark, and handsome, but he places blame on himself much too easily. He never lets his brothers shoulder the burden of responsibility, especially when the stakes are so high. It's quite easy to see how his horrific childhood experiences has and continues to have an overwhelming impact on the man he is now. His brothers although grateful for Keegan's sacrifice are determined to see Keegan happy... even if that means committing the ultimate sacrifice themselves. Half-demon brothers with a sensitive side and bad-ass supernatural abilities? Ms. Lario makes it possible with a writing talent that instantly has the reader falling for these characters with their witty banter and personalities. Each brother is distinguished by the mysterious “other half” of their maternal heritage, which is revealed in the story. Part of their mission in coming to Earth was to seek knowledge in the whereabouts of the Book and heir, but perhaps some long overdue paternal justice may be served as well. You'll have to read the story to find out about these brothers' incredible back-story. I really enjoyed the magnetic push and pull of Keegan and Brynn. The characters would wind-up in a forbidden sexual (almost) situation and then out of nowhere circumstances would pull them apart, but each encounter ripens with increased sexual energy and tension. This all leads to unforgettable scenes between Keegan and Brynn that are aggressively sexy yet sensationally tender. Talk about being swept away (quite literally for the heroine) by the romance! Needless to say, I will be continuing with book two of the Demons of Infernum series. The battle is just getting started and I can't wait to see where Taeg takes the storyline next. Reader's looking for a lot of paranormal and a lot of romance, will definitely want to check out this fantastic author! Review soon-to-be posted @ Night Owl Reviews

http://tanateeesh.blogspot.com/2009/0... كتاب من قلائل الكتب اللى بتأثّر فيا .. نوعية معينة من الكتابة بتخربش فى قلبى وبتُنهك تفكيرى لأنها عادة بتفاجئنى بكلام ممكن يكون بيلخص حالة من التخبط بحسها كتير وبلمسها فى غيرى من الناس.. احساس بانسانيتك ومحاولة للبحث عن ماهيتك وتثبيت ادراكك للحياة كاتب بتؤرقه ذكرياته وحياته فيقرر انه يكتب عنها فى محاولة بديلة للانتحار مش هدفه ذكر أحداث تاريخية قد ما يهمه انه يوصل الصوت.ان تظل الذاكرة حية حتى لا ننسى الماضى وننغمس فى الحاضر ولا نملك وقت للتفكير نفس الاحساس اللى ربما فشلت فى ترجمته ولكن هوا حوله بقلمه الى صوت مسموع بالرغم من ادعائى قدرتى على التعبير ولكن بتفضل حاجات جوايا بيصعب عليا شرحها وتفسيرها حتى لنفسى أحياناً كلامه عن الذاكرة لما بيقول : " مع ذاكرتى أحارب .. آخر معاركى ، وفيها لا أقبل الهزيمة" " كل ما أريده هو أن يكون لى ذاكرة لا تعرف الصفح أو النسيان ، ذاكرة لا تقبل العزاء" وكلامه عن التفكير لما بيقول: " اكتشاف التفكير كأنه الوقوع فى الحب. الموضوع لا جسد له، مطلق، منتشر فى كل الكائنات ولذة التفكير والاكتشاف تقود الى غابات وسهول خضراء بلا حدود ، تسمعنى موسيقى الوجود بكراً ، تولد لأول مرة، تذيقنى خمراً هى الثقة بالنفس والتواجد فى مركز الوجود" " تعلمت أن أحب الكلمات. تعلمت ألا أرددها دون فهم أو ادراك. فهم الكلمات ومحبتها كان هو المفتاح السحرى الذى يقودنى الى بهجة العقل ونعيم الفهم والتفكير" "لم يعد أمامى سوى أن اقوم أنا بالاكتشاف الشخصى لمعانى كل تلك الكلمات وغيرها.. شخصى بمعنى أن أعرف المعنى داخلى وفوق أرضى، أن أعانى البحث وأن اتصور الفهم يلمع فى داخلى" "أعاند أن تضيع حياتى وكلماتى وأفعالى بين العبث وضرورة الرسالة" مشكلتى هيا الحاح المعرفة.. التى دائما ما أشعر بأنها وتر مشدود ما بين رغبة صادقة فى الوصول للحقيقة ومقاومة الاستسلام لمحاولات التغييب المستمرة ومابين رهبة مواجهتها مشكلتى هيا حقيقة وجودى.. الحلم الذى لا يكف عن مطاردتى ومحاولاتى الدائمة ألا أفقد الانتماء معاناة أن تكتشف لنفسك فى كل يوم هدف تسعى لتحقيقه وأن تقاوم الشعور بالوحدة والغربة فوق وطن يرغمك أن تعيشه مشكلتى هيا البحث عن انسان يستحق وسط عالم ملىء بالمتناقضات أو زى ما هوا بيقول " الانسان الذى يدفئنى بالقرب منه أو يحركنى وجوده الأصيل" مشكلتى التى لا رغبة لدى فى التخلص منها ولا توقع فى مدى امكانية احتمالها، فقط استعير كلماته وأقول "هى صفاتى وأنا أحملها تهمة لا أنكرها وشرف استطيع بصعوبة أن أدعيه"

Very cute story about the girl whose parents are divorced, but she is not alone because she has her dog Fred who is her friend. The problem is that Fred is BIG troublemaker; he destroys things in both homes and both parents want him gone. The girl puts her foot down and announcing that her dog stays with her, end of story. I love this book!!! I wish I had a dog when my parents were divorcing; it would have helped me to deal with that.
