When i bought this book i was looking for a psy-cop romance kind of thing. It took me forever to get around to reading it and when I did, oops. This book isn't what I expected it to be but it was very good. It's not a romance at all its more a sociological study with a gay main character and set in a fictitious world. It drug a little around page 300 or so it picked back up quickly.

I picked this up yesterday as I wasn't feeling great and needed something I could dip in and out of and this fitted the bill as the chapters are fairly short. It is told by lots of the characters affected by the scandal and with each chapter something new is revealed.

Krótka książka, ot takie rozbuchane opowiadanie. Napisana trochę irytującym stylem, gdzie dialogi (a jest ich tyle co kot napłakał) nie są praktycznie wydzielone z reszty tekstu. Nie ma myślników, nie ma apostrofów, czytasz sobie tekst narratora i nagle wchodzi w samym środku jakieś zdanie, które jest wypowiedzią jednego z bohaterów, tak ni z gruszki ni z pietruszki. Myślałem że ktoś pokpił polskie wydanie, ale jednak nie - tak samo jest w oryginale. Do tego rozmowy ojca z synem są raczej mdłe i minimalistyczne - pewnie ze względu na to, że byli zdołowani tą apokalipsą (a kto by nie był?). Do tego brak jakichkolwiek rozdziałów, a całość to zlepek krótkich akapitów (przynajmniej szybko się to czyta), które są jak migawki z podróży - często oderwane od reszty, przeskakujące w czasie. Poza tym idą i idą donikąd (do końca książki się nie dowiedziałem gdzie i po co tak właściwie szli - wszędzie było tak samo beznadziejnie, to chyba lepiej już się zadekować w jakimś domu - a że ktoś przyjdzie i ich zabije? Trudno, i tak chyba wolałbym taką śmierć niż głodową i z przemarznięcia.) i nic się nie dzieje. Cała fabuła tej książki wygląda jak gra w nowe Fallouty, ale bez questów i NPC - łazisz i zbierasz graty oraz jesz, żeby nie umrzeć. Znalazłem może trzy momenty w całej książce kiedy lekko skoczyła adrenalina, ale niestety były to raczej niewypały. Coś mi się wydaje, że ekranizacja musi być ciekawsza od książki z uwagi na formę.

Cole is a video game developer who’s bored with his life and decides the best way to rejuvenate is to go to Canada and kill something. Fortunately for Bambi, but unfortunately for Cole and the others on the trip, things don’t go as planned and the group is attacked by a huge creature that Cole can’t even begin to identify. One of the men who’d tried to stop what he called a Full Blood, but is obviously dying, asks Cole to take some kind of a knife and a message to a woman named Paige. Feeling he owes the dying man for saving his life, Cole agrees and is thrust into a world that he never dreamed existed. Once he finds Paige, who is a Skinner, someone who hunts down and kills monsters, Cole learns that, even if he goes back to his normal life, the Full Blood can, and most likely will, track him down and kill him. Also, Cole feels a responsibility to try and stop the murders that are usually deemed wild animal killings. They find that there’s more going on than just the normal occasional killing of humans and Skinners. Paige and Cole, along with the help of a man who calls himself Prophet, attempt to stop the killings before they start an all out war between supernatural beings and humans, who are blissfully unaware of what’s going on around them. I liked this book quite a bit. Cole was really freaked out at first and then slightly freaked out when something new and/or weird happened. Paige tried to get Cole up to speed and mentor him without forcing him to do something he didn't want to do; she gave Cole the option of leaving at any time without laying a guilt trip on him. They were both pretty normal people who happened to be thrust into less than normal situations but, unlike most people, they did what needed to be done in order to protect the rest of the unaware world. There was a good amount of action and I liked Cole’s personality and sense of humor. I look forward to reading Howling Legion.
