A little dated, but an entertaining, quick read. My problems weren't with the prose, nor the humor of the book...I had an issue with her cluelessness. Essentially, Barbara is reflecting an ENTIRE social class of people in this book. How can you be THAT CLUELESS to the struggles the impoverished deal with daily? I was entertained by her internal quips to people, but expecting those around her to KNOW the difference inherently just by speaking wth her that she is an "educated woman" as opposed to the "unskilled worker"....hmmmm. I was disappointed with her allotment with which to begin the project, and her unwillingness to live in a car. Even I do that on the regular! I'm shocked she could be so clueless, acting like a first month and security deposit for an appartment would grow on trees for her coworkers. She had A LOT to complain about...like how hard it is to eat without a dining room table? REALLY?! She and her social classmates are a bit too damn spoiled. That being said, I appreciated her willingness to step out of her protected bubble (even though she had a cushion on which to fall that could release her from any true stress of living a life of poverty). The truth is, everyone who has a comfy middle class existence should read this book. It's a little disgusting that they are so lost.

It was okay. I think the couple fell in love too fast and didn't have enough conflict in their relationship to keep it interesting. It was still a great adventure. And it was pretty hot. It just didn't really hold my interest enough. I'm still gonna read the whole series. They aren't bad.

A junior-high FAVORITE that still holds up its fun and intrigue. NOT a dumbed-down mystery. If you've never read it, I promise it will keep you guessing. And even on a rereading, when you already know the puzzle's solution(s), the story and characters keep you turning pages. This is one of the best mystery books of all time, whatever your age. I read it in a day. And will read it in a day many more times in the future.

Solid GFY that explores realistic issues such as new relationships, step-parenting, HIV and coming out. Jason is a young closeted Police Officer in a small Canadian town. He has long had a crush on his best friend and work partner, David, a divorcee with 3 kids. One night they are snowed in and Jason's secret is revealed which causes David to acknowledge some strong feelings of his own. They embark on a relationship and although they suffer many setbacks and revelations along the way, their love remains strong. I feel like I should like this story more than I did, seeing as it covers so many serious issues. But in truth I had trouble connecting with the two MC's. The writing style for me seemed informative rather than descriptive and I was not caught up in the emotion or the romance. I have the same reaction to authors Scotty Cade and Andrew Grey's work so if you like those authors you'll probably really enjoy this novel. On the positive side the sex scenes were quite well written and I could feel the author really took her characters and their story seriously.
