Laura Gonzalez laurieguns — Solid GFY that explores realistic issues such as new relationships, step-parenting, HIV and coming out. Jason is a young closeted Police Officer in a small Canadian town. He has long had a crush on his best friend and work partner, David, a divorcee with 3 kids. One night they are snowed in and Jason's secret is revealed which causes David to acknowledge some strong feelings of his own. They embark on a relationship and although they suffer many setbacks and revelations along the way, their love remains strong. I feel like I should like this story more than I did, seeing as it covers so many serious issues. But in truth I had trouble connecting with the two MC's. The writing style for me seemed informative rather than descriptive and I was not caught up in the emotion or the romance. I have the same reaction to authors Scotty Cade and Andrew Grey's work so if you like those authors you'll probably really enjoy this novel. On the positive side the sex scenes were quite well written and I could feel the author really took her characters and their story seriously.

Hao Soon _ao_oon — i loved this for it's anti-chick-lit tendencies. . .it's not about getting the boy, but the ambiguous yet sometimes delicious feelings of what it means to get it on with the boy. . .it's one of the few books that gets into the non-romantic underbelly of romance. my fantastic friend sarah got me this book and i read the first chapter over lunch. . . and read it swiftly over the course of 2 nights. . . .
