I knew from the first few pages that I wouldn't like this book. Since it was for book club, I kept going. The premise is horrifying and that made me not want to read it. I felt like the characters kept changing--maybe because we just got glimpses of their lives every few years. I also felt like the author wanted us to remember how things were for women and families of down syndrome children in the 1960's and then just kept hitting us over the head with it. I hope the rest of you like it better than I did!

This was a fantastic book by a scientist at LSU who has been studying the diminishing Louisiana coast for decades. He explains what happened during Katrina, and why, from an insider's perspective with scientific research to back it up. It's very clear and easy to read, not a bunch of scientific mumbo jumbo. He had been telling everyone who would listen what would happen if a Cat. 5 storm came to Louisiana, and everything he predicted was correct. It makes such common sense, you wonder how Louisiana politicians have ignored the signs for decades. And why they don't take a more aggressive approach to saving our state.

Well written but way too sketchy for what it promises; I thought this kind of sketchiness is passe in history books, but it seems people still are in love with generalizations. The vignettes realting the classical world with the modern world and the treatment of the early period with Troy and the Minoan civilization are highlights, but the rest is not worth being way better book out there that treat the Greek-Hellenistic - Romnan era; I think that a focus only from 1200-600 BC would have made this book much better

This was a cute book. Definitely for kids/teens, but not terrible. There was some info dumping going on and some strange word changes (you know where in order to make a story seem fantastical enough they change the names of things like peanutbutter?), but otherwise the story itself was decently involving and pretty well paced overall.

I will go back to The War of Art again and again in my quest to live a creative life. Resistance be gone! Steven Pressfield offers up a no-holds-barred account of what a writer (or artist in general) must conquer every day in order to get down to the business of doing their work. This book is an invaluable gift from an accomplished writer, teacher, and mentor.
