Wonderful! I hope there will be more books in future about these characters. I plan to read "Zoe's World" soon. * * * I really like the idea of Mennonites as colonists and with their internal structure, work ethic, and practical skills they would be ideal. It is obvious that Scalzi is familiar with Anabaptist beliefs and practices and his respect is obvious. I loved the way that religious pacifism was shown in action to the point of martyrdom by one of the characters. I am so tired of reading books with simplistic evil crazy religious fanatics as villains. This was a very nice change!

Gibson came dangerously close to losing his edge with his last couple of books, Idoru and All Tomorrow's Parties. But now that he's realized that the present has, for the most part, caught up with his future, he's back on form. Pattern Recognition is his best book since is first. I only wish most booksellers would wise up and take this one out of the sci-fi section.

Evermore was likable enough, so I was invested and seeing as the whole series is done, I will read all of them, except I may not like them all. Here is my biggest pro on this book. Bella has competition on being the most pathetic, unintelligent heroine in a YA book. Ever is right there next to her. (Spoiler) I mean Come On already!! Let's see if I have this right, your boyfriend has been poisoned and is dying. There are two people who are willing to help you: Option A) two sisters, who are a little weird, and been somewhat rude to you or Option B) The guy who poisoned your boyfriend in the first place. Who do you trust to try and save him??? Who? Let me think... What??? Why would you choose the one that poisoned him in the first place? So in a stupidity contest not sure if that would win.. or going to a ballet studio to try to fight a vampire by yourself. It's a close call if you ask me. This one really struck me as a teen book, and a little hokey. I will finish the series, because they are quick reads, and I have been assured they get better... I hope so. Poor Damen, maybe he should have killed this one off and waited for a smarter Ever to come along in the future. Too bad "you can never go back."

I think if I had read these while I was little I would have enjoyed them more. But I am just to old for them now.

The premise of this book was very interesting and catchy, but the delivery was really horrible. The first chapter was full of mindless action that was really unrelatable. I kind of found it hard to believe that a principal, scared or not, would stand by and watch as a student is getting knocked out, and I also found it hard to believe that the same victim, on the same day is seeking revenge on the same people that beat her up instead of her going to the hospital to get herself cleaned up. When I first heard of Karsten Knight, I thought he was a female, and so did not think i would want to read thiS book, then I saw his profile and he was male, I was excited, and I thought maybe someone was going to do a more complex and more interesting take on the PERCY JACKSON series. I did my own author stalking, saw his videos, and that was when I started doubting the book because I felt he was trying too hard to be funny. And that is exactly how i felt about the book, the parts I read that is. I wish Ash was a male character, maybe it would have turned out good for me. I could not just finish the book. The scene u top of the roof where Lizzie or something was confronted by Ash seemed pretty lame, like the author was trying to make the dialogue sound as epic as possible. Bottom line i did not finish the book. I would have given it one star, but I am way too nice to do that.

An interesting historical fiction. Lots of social history included which was enlightening to read. I can't believe the major class differences and how corrupt some people can be. Loved the heroin Grace. Will have to check out more from this author.

A bit trite and stilted at times, but okay.

Georges Simenon was one of a kind. Not that there aren't mystery writers under practically every bush, but Simenon brought something unique to the genre -- something I have not seen copied satisfactorily by any of the hordes that tried to follow in his footsteps. Especially in his Inspector Maigret novels, there is a uniquely French characteristic, which is closely related to the French verb débrouiller, which means to untangle or sort out, to "defog" as it were. About forty pages into Maigret and the Fortuneteller (in French, Signé Picpus), Simenon muses about the very confusing tangle of evidence and large cast of suspicious characters: This was the most discouraging moment in a case. The characters were beginning to take shape, the stage was more or less set, but the actors' parts seemed as yet unrelated. Where most writers of mysteries go astray is in following the grand tradition of Tales of Ratiocination more or less invented by Edgar Allan Poe and brought to its apogee with Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. The truth of the matter is that Inspector (excuse me, by now he's a Superintendent) Maigret is no Holmes. He is not even particularly imaginative; but what he is , more than anything, is dogged and observant. Things can get confusing with astonishing rapidity in a Simenon novel, but Maigret will light another pipe and order another beer or Calvados until the fog begins to clear. And when it does, you can almost hear choirs of angels singing in exultation. Except, in reality, Maigret is dead tired, goes home after several days of absence, waves away his dinner from Mme Maigret, and goes straight to bed.

Very useful exposition of one writer's method. Perry is refreshingly honest in admitting that his method may not be perfect for everyone. I found many of his tips to be helpful.
