I hadn't read any Anne Tyler in a while, but kept coming across her name as I was reading Nick Hornby's Polysyllabic Spree. I'd forgotten how good her stuff is. Such tender writing, especially when revealing the painful weak spots in personal lives.

C.S.Lewis is brilliant, not that this was not already known. Though two of the stories were never finished and the editor gives what they found in Lewis's papers and it teases you with introducing you to a new world that is not fully developed you still love it. Undoubtedly people have used these unfinished stories for writing exercises in having others try to finish them. I would love to try, but am honestly very daunted. Try to write as Lewis did, I am far from that class.

It's hard to hate a David Sedaris book. Though I've never found his writing as ridiculously funny as when he reads it out loud. Regardless, if you've ever lived in France for any length of time without understanding French and seemed to have a learning block against it, you will love the later essays in this book.

Roly Poly Pudding was my favorite. Also Squirrel Nutkin. Hickamore hackamore on the king's kitchen door all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't get hickamore hackamore off the king's kitchen door

One of the few books I've ever read that made me laugh out loud, but that was in 2002, pre-LOLing.

Rebecca/Becky Shapiro is at odds with her life. Yanked away from her-here since kindergarten-home she winds up in Atlanta with her two-year old brother Lew, as her Mom attempts to sort things out. Readers who have experienced the pain of separation will identify with Rebecca's frustrating attempts to make things return to normal. A magic bread box, discovered in the attic of her grandmother's house, at first seems to make things better. But Rebecca eventually learns that what is really important in life can't be wished for and the things that matter most are always bigger than a bread box. While this book is targeted for middle grade readers, I'm looking forward to putting into the hands of some of my high schoolers who know the pain of loss and change.

A good book for children who may have a hard time making friends or have slight behavioral problems. It can give them a character to relate to and show them that making friends is not as hard as they may think. May also help with behavioral problems in that instead of acting defensively in a situation when a fellow peer tries to communicate in a positive way they can recognize it for what it is and react openly.

A pretty book with lots of tempting recipes. The one I tried, Chocolate Chip Biscuits, I wasn't all too thrilled with though; I thought other recipes from my past made better cookies. For my taste, these needed more salt. But I liked chilling the dough and cutting the cookies instead of the typical way of dropping them from a spoon. I'd try other recipes from here if I owned the book. but I have to return it to the library.
