Quentin Blake's anthology of nonsense verse contains many familiar classics (e.g. Carroll's "Jabberwocky") alongside many that will become instant favorites. Original drawings by the editor only sweeten the deal.

It's a classic, and I just picked it up in the bargain bin - always meant to read it.

This book tells the story of the sub-prime mortgage crisis from the perspective of those who saw it coming. These are the guys who shorted triple-A rated collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) and made piles of money. It's interesting because it has you anxiously awaiting, and almost looking forward to, the collapse of the financial system...even though it spells layoffs, major losses to portfolios and the start of The Great Recession. However, this book lacks the humor of Michael Lewis' Home Game, doesn't adequately explain some financial terms and is sometimes repetitive in its explanations of others. I'm now reading Liar's Poker and it is much funnier.

The best American novel of (and about) the late C20.

This is a hilarious account of a sort of coming-of age kind of story told in a becoming-of-cook/chef sort of way. If you cook at all, you will find it really intersting and it's funny even if you don't cook. It actually made me want to go out and find Julia Child's recipes myself! synopsis: a secretary tries to cook all of Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking (524 recipes) in 365 days. Read-iculous.

As big a fan as I am of Star Wars, one thing I always had a problem with was the intentional dehumanization of the Imperial Troops. Most of course were nigh-faceless Stormtroopers, and many of the rank and file units were glossed over, leaving only the higher ranked officers who were portrayed as sniveling, overconfident, incompetent, and generally detached from any sense of "service" or "duty" (with the notable exceptions of Daine Jir, General Veers, and Captain/Admiral Piett). The Galactic Empire was often presented as having little function in the galaxy except for hunting the Rebel Alliance and allowing Vader to show how evil he was by killing his own men for any failure. Allegiance however brings us a view of the galaxy and the ongoing struggle from the point of view of some of those same "faceless" Imperial Stormtroopers, who find themselves in an impossible situation, and are forced by circumstance and conscience to turn against the Empire they serve. These men are still the epitome of honorable soldiers though, and even when they are unable to continue in their assigned service, they continue on, seeking out the forces of chaos, lawlessness, and disorder, and bringing justice to the inhabitants that some in the Empire seem to have forgotten are under their care. Timothy Zahn is consistently my favorite author in the Star Wars universe (though Karen Traviss is very close) and his previous works left me with high expectations for Allegiance, which does not disappoint in any way.

The book was nice! (as usual) But the beginning was always my problem with nicholas sparks' books. It's ALWAYS very uneventful and boring. but after a few chapters that's the time I get interested in the book. The book was the prequel to At first sight. and the fact that I read At first sight before True believer was weird because I forgot almost everything that happend in the sequel and it made me want to read the book again. lol. But back to true believer. The book was nice considering the fact that I love Love Stories. But I found it hard to believe that they both fell in love in a WEEK. But I guess that doesn't make me a TRUE BELIEVER of love at first sight. hahahaha! All in all Sparks did another great book in which I was surprised that no one died in this book. but yes I know, in the sequel Lexie died.. it's like he wasn't contented of having someone live with their true love and he HAD to kill Lexie. Boo. haha
A fun read!
