I really loved this simple little book. I felt such a kindred relationship with Agnes. I feel like she wrote my inner most thoughts. There's nothing really remarkable about the book, but I think that's what makes it so remarkable to me.:)

terribly well written, which because of how depressing the story is makes it a very informative guide on how not to ruin your own life; the style is 5 stars but i need books in my life that are less methodically tragic.

I enjoyed this but it was oddly similar to" away" by amy bloom. Emigrant comes over and starts earning money by sewing, encounters difficulty, sadness and loss. The end goal of the main characters is different but many similarities. A well written and seemingly well researched book.

I really like Nick Hornby and I like music, which is why this felt like the perfect book to read. He takes us through 31 Songs/Albums/etc that he wants to ponder about. While it's not a page-turner or an opus work, it's something different. It's a good read, a fun meditation on music. And, like me, even as you read him writing about bands you've never heard of (and probably never will hunt down), you'll probably start taking a trip down memory lane and your own music collection. And that, in itself, is priceless.

One of the best written books I have read. While war novels aren't really my thing, this novel is so human in the psychology of being a soldier and just coping with life it hurts. Every word seemed carefully chosen. Though it was an 'easy read', I savored it for the nuance and not wanting it to end. I would recommend to anyone.

This is your typical boy meets girl, boy and girl raise family, boy kills everyone in the house with a baseball bat and successfully pleads insanity story. I avoided the true crime genre for some time, suspecting (correctly) that I'd enjoy it a little too much, but if you can handle it, this is very well done, readable without being hacky or trashy. The epilogue (consisting of the author's rather uncomfortable luncheon with members of the parental support group the ill-fated family in question once belonged to) is particularly compelling. Your stomach will turn, but hey, so will the pages.
