This book is honest, tender, and full of truth.

Dijkstra's main point is that to use analogy to teach Computer Science is a failure of imagination and boldness. He argues that because computers can and will allow us to do such *un*imaginable things it's a pedagogical mistake to constrain the student mental model of what is possible with concepts or ideas that are fundamentally constrained and/or misleading. At first I laughed this off. Literally. Dijkstra is not a likable character even in his own speech! But with a few weeks to think about his point I think there is something fundamentally right about insisting we never anthropomorphize computers or analogize what they can do. To do so does actually constrain our imagination about them with practical results. I will strive to try and see this more radical, more novel, more scary universe that Dijkstra points to.

I enjoyed Bridge of Sighs so much that I had to go back and read this much earlier work by Russo and I wasn't disappointed.

Sometimes dry and tedious, and a little bit of a stretch for anyone who actually did grow up being a dependent in a military town, but still a decent read and informative.

I enjoyed this book! But then knew I would, being a Lords of the Underworld fan already :))

I read this book this summer and loved it! It is a great historical fiction novel set during the 11th century in England when vikings were constantly plundering and pillaging. Emma, from Normandy, marries Aelthred when she is only 12! This really happened! Amazing read.

click here for more book reviews. ***** i don't care what it's called. i just want to be with her at the end. i'm not giving up. Meghan, i'll be with you soon. Please wait for me. Holy. Freaking. Crap. this book (and the whole series!) made a basketcase out of me. After turning the last page, reading the last line, i was stunned. immovable. lost in Neverland world. i don't ever want to go back to reality! i want to be right there! in the world Julie Kagawa made for me. *bawling* but i need to step back to reality first to write this. INHALE, EXHALE. it seems that the fey (summer, winter and iron) will not leave Meghan alone. After following Ash in the mortal world, she decided to go back to her family (to her brother) and live a normal life. But the Iron Fey won't let her have that. the new Iron King wants her dead since she poses a threat to him and his throne. so on with the journey to the Iron realm and finish this once and for all. it's not going to be easy. Ash is now a banished prince. He no longer holds the authority over winter fey. They are both exiled from Neverland and Meghan was sad because she've come to love that place. and of course Puck is there. Meghan's and Ash's relationship started to grow and i liked that. Meghan is starting to embrace her inevitable destiny as a regent. but does that leave Ash? it's different now, though. i have something to fight for. i'm not afraid to die, but i don't intend to give up, either. The war finally unfolds before my eyes. Iron fey are gaining ground toward the Summer and Winter court. and the final battle, WOW. i felt the danger, the viciousness to kill. the hopelessness to win. and the never-ending conflict between Summer and Winter court. by the time i read that there is a new Iron King, i instantly knew who he was (snivelling bastard). i felt sorry for the pack rats. i wanted to squash the Iron King for what he did to them. i love the scenes in the cottage that Leanansidhe lent to them. Meghan and Paul is starting life with each other again. Meghan is FINALLY taking the war seriously so she begins training in combat and in fey magic. Meghan and Ash. Let me put it out there that their moments made me delirious. and mushy. and ... STOP! i got carried away, but i can't help it! it was so f*ckin' romantic. *sigh* my FAVE scene is when Meghan lied down under Machina's tree. the way she accepts the finality of it all. the way she let Ash go. man, i was crying like a baby. it was such an EPIC moment for me. the ending was astounding. it left me literally breathless. my face was tear-streaked. CRAP! Julie Kagawa, you made me like this! Turn me back to what i once was! More than the enticing covers, the Iron Fey Series is definitely one of the best YA series i've ever read. Happy Ever After is not out of reach. Book 4, The Iron Knight, hit shelves October 2011. This time, it is Ash's POV. Yes! *hypeventilating* BETTER READ THIS! Now, i'll go ahead to Neverland. Ash is waiting for me ;) and i swear, if there is a way for us to be together, i will find it. no matter how long it takes. if i have to chase your soul to the ends of eternity, i won't stop until i find, i promise.

Pregnancy! is awful! and awesome! and I use! lots of exclamation points! I wanted to read a funny book about being knocked up. This was not it. I will stick to re-reading The Story About the Baby from now on. (http://www.ironycentral.com/babymain....)

Samantha Sweeting, a lawyer at a prestigous Longdon law firm, makes a terrible mistake which not only costs her the coveted partnership, but also her job. Blindly running away from London, Samantha stumbles into a job as a housekeeper for a rich and clueless couple in the Cotswolds. Samantha finds out much about life, love, and cleaning in this fun novel. Is it somewhat formulaic? Yes. Does it have any literary value? No. Did I enjoy it? Thoroughly. I am sure part of the appeal to me lies in my Anglophilia, but I think it would be enjoyable for all.

If you like dreaming you'll like Erickson's The Sea came in at Midnight. Nothing in this book makes sense, yet it makes complete sense at the same time. Sense of time is completely shattered. Images are strong and i still have a grasp of them years after i've read the novel. Understanding exactly what is going on in this book really doesn't matter, just go for the ride and you'll take away a lot from it. Recommended for fans of the surreal.
