Xerife Espinho trinsheira — If you like dreaming you'll like Erickson's The Sea came in at Midnight. Nothing in this book makes sense, yet it makes complete sense at the same time. Sense of time is completely shattered. Images are strong and i still have a grasp of them years after i've read the novel. Understanding exactly what is going on in this book really doesn't matter, just go for the ride and you'll take away a lot from it. Recommended for fans of the surreal.

Eric Chow cyersart — My high school years would probably seem boring based on the fact that I mostly read Victorian Literature.

James Nguyen latado — 4.5 stars but hell, this was a fantastic book. This review contains no spoilers unless you dare to check the tags. As the conclusion to the Newsfeed series, Blackout came out with the speed of a bullet train. For an author who I had previously written off as just one of those writers who has to explicate EVERYTHING (not that her books are bad, but I had made my peace with the writing style), Grant really cut out a lot of the extraneous detailing this time around. The book still is almost 600 pages, but 97% of it is actually stuff related to forwarding the plot further. From Feed to Blackout, it's very easy to see Grant's progression and maturation as a writer. The whole book played on my emotions like a pro. I wanted to laugh, cry, and scream all within one chapter. (view spoiler)For a zombie book, Grant spends a lot of her time developing the cast of human characters. Yes, there are zombies, but they aren't the focus of the series. It is all about the people. It is all about Shaun and Georgia and Mahir and Becks and Maggie and Buffy and Dave and Alaric and everyone on the After the End Times team. Does the author have a degree in psychology? She sure seems to know a lot about how to write convincing characters. None of the books in this series had an issue with having an intriguing plot. There is nothing boring, IMO, about espionage (political, corporate, or epidemiological). But without all the text redundancy, Blackout turned out to be a hurricane of action. Again, the focus of Grant's books are on the humans, not the zombies. There were only a couple of major zombie scenes in this book, so the main conflict was "Who the hell is killing people willy nilly?" (view spoiler) The lead up to the end of the book is exhilarating. There are no dull road trips, only tense car rides through woods filled with zombie bears. The sense of urgency that the characters carried around contributed a tight, fast paced story. The next issue I want to address is the romance. Spoilers to follow, so if you don't want to bleed from your eyeballs and to find your face melting off (yes, an Indiana Jones reference just for kicks), skip to the next section. (view spoiler) I subtracted half a star because I thought the final confrontation scene was a little...unnatural. The ending (view spoiler) just rang a little false. As the author of the novel that has earned a spot in my mind for eternity as being one of the most realistic post apocalyptic books on the market, Grant went too far off from the realism. I just wish that the final chapter didn't feel like the ending to the seventh Harry Potter book. After everything that happened, the resolution was too pat to leave a truly satisfying end.

Gustavo Border gustavobor3392 — Overall, I think this story had great potential, but I just don't think it delivered. I got the feeling that the really interesting parts where being withheld. I wanted to stop reading several times, but kept at it thinking i was going to read the bit that tied it all together. I was disappointed at the end that something important still eluded me. I would like to have a discussion with others who liked the book to see what it was that I didn't quite get.
