So sue me, I like overwrought tomes regarding post-apocalyptic America. Although the ending is still a cop-out, it's a terrific journey nevertheless.

Totally chic lit crap, but somehow identified with the main character who gets off the ride in Naragansett and doesn't manage to leave for a few years... a kick in the pants. And of course I cried.

I recall watching an interview with Westlake where he describes how he goes about writing his stories. He says that you start out with "voice"--and that in turn leads to characters, which leads to stories. Hence, "Stark" is not just his pseudonym for the Parker series, but also the voice. It was remarkable to me how much Westlake was able to completely change his storytelling voice for Somebody Owes Me Money. The character Chester is your Average Joe -- the opposite of Parker. And his narration of the story is a light, often comedic voice; again, the opposite of a Parker story. Unfortunately, it also differed from the few Parker stories I've read in that, well, it just wasn't that good. While it wasn't horrible, I agree with most other reviewers that it was a rather fluffy romantic comedy piece that I could've done without.

I admit that I read this because it supposedly influenced the writers of Lost, and there are some similar themes (an underground box, some past sins, etc.), but all the conversations with the first two policemen drove me insane.

Another good book by Jennifer Echols. It was funny and nice and i liked it a lot. Hayden and Nick are so cute and after 4 years they finally made it. I liked the challenge and everything that came out with it. I really enjoyed this book.

Probably the best book I've read about being a teenage male outside of Catcher in the Rye. That's the only way I'll compare the two though. This one is much sadder and more melancholic, but not in a bad way. It has the right sense of nostalgic distance and honesty to keep it from getting overwhelming sappy like it could have.
