I remember the Conan short stories as being a lot of fun when I read them 20 odd years ago. I don't know if it's the passage of time or if it's just this particular book, but I didn't find much to enjoy. I suspect it's that Conan is just better in small doses.

I was really looking forward to reading this book, especially since one of Melissa Kantor's other books is one of my favorites. I could not enjoy this one, though, and it made me kind of sad. The main character was a little too emotional from a breakup with a guy that didn't even seem that great and there was a lot of unneeded things brought up. I set the book down after reading the 22 page. It was really disappointing. :( Just because this book wasn't the greatest, don't be fooled. The author is still a great writer and look for her book, If I Have a Wicked Stepmother, Where's My Prince?, at your local library. It's a great read!

I really liked this book. It progressed at a good pace and gave a new look at the Greek gods. The main storyline of this book was that Percy Jackson, a half-blood/demigod, had to find Zeus' master lightning bolt before the summer solstice or else the worst war in history would break out between the gods. The story was filled with twists, humor, and general fun. If you are around the age of thirteen this is a good book.

This book is told from many character's perspective giving it a really nice feel. (I love the techniques of the author to find new and interesting ways to tell her stories) The main character is a young girl who learns that the right choice is not always the easiest one to make, and that love will give you strength to stay the course. Ultimately a story of sacrifice....this was a wonderful book. The author states that she knew how this book would end before she even put one word on paper....and i must admit the ending was a surprise to me and left me sobbing.

excellent plane reading - consumed this on round trip flight newark to atlanta. makes me want to get a plot in a community garden even though i don't know how to garden. also makes me even more excited for the CSA season to begin. also makes me miss my friends in vancouver.
