About half-way through this book I had an abrupt change of opinion. When I began the book I was captivated by the language, the ideas, the ways my imagination was being sparked (and no, I'm not talking about the raunchy scenes - even though there were oh so many of them. ugh) and the gradual unfolding of the lives of the two couples involved in the story. But then I started to get depressed. And then even more depressed. Soon I dreaded picking up the book and I wondered how in the world I could have gone to loving the book to dreading it so much. I thought I understood what Milan Kundera was saying (even though I readily admit to much of it just going right over my head), but I think I got an idea. I understand what he's talking about when mentioning the "Unbearable Lightness of Being" - or at least I think I do. What I don't understand is why there couldn't be just one character we could fall in love with, just one! Instead, I felt as if he approached this in a clinical, hands-off manner as if saying, "Sure I thought them up, but now they are your responsibility!". I've never read a book that's flipped me from one side to the other like this, so it's a new experience for me and one I'm hoping to not have happen again anytime soon. I haven't given up on Kundera though and do plan to check his other works out. I just hope I will end them able to at least smile instead of feeling as if I should tear up the book and cry crocodile tears on its corpse.

Dr. Kalas gives really good examples of how you might preach a Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Pentecost, or Trinity Day sermon. I come from a non-liturgical background, so this book helped me see the value in even highlighting some of these days in the Church calendar. Before each chapter, Dr. Kalas, explains the holiday and the significance for the Christian calendar, but also he gives advice on how (or how not) to preach them. His prose is very readable and down-to-earth. It really is like being back in his preaching classes.

Just horrid. I could go on and on about why but really just horrid.

Ever since I read (and re-read and re-read) Ella Enchanted back in the day, I have always wanted MORE! And then I read Fairest and then The Two Princesses of Bamarre and I gobbled those up. I even went so far as to steal a copy of EE from an elementary school I helped paint. *hangs head in shame* (so worth it) Anyway, my point is - I am so down for this novel.

Once you start this delicious novel, you won't be able to put it down. The inter-woven stories of six women in this small, Illinois town are enough to capture any reader. Each of these interesting women has a story to tell; a story of pain or loss. Through the events of this novel, as the Friendship starter is passed throughout the town, each woman slowly learns to trust another with her heart as she looks to heal and move forward. The emotions are real and there isn't a situation here that every reader can't easily identify with. Each character walks a different walk, comes from a different place; cross-generational women, reaching out to help one another. It's a story of sisters, moms, friends, bakers, artists.no one is left out here. This brilliant author has found a way into the reader's heart through these great characters. Darien Gee gives the details and thought that make a book great. A book that will stay with you long after you finish the Epilogue; it will stay in your thoughts and call you back to read it again. In addition, this book is a slam-dunk for anyone that loves food or loves to bake. I was dying to get a nibble of all the great foods mentioned in this book! Don't miss the recipes included in the back of the either. I'm seriously considering whipping up my own "starter" and passing this around my small town! A book to love, a book to give, and a book to remember.don't miss this one!

As mysteries go, this was an excellent one. Sue Grafton used a nice technique of revealing the plot in the present day alternately with the 1950s. The plot of the 50s was focused on each of the major characters. Nicely done.

Office Space is to corporate, cubicle world as Moo is to anyone working at a University. I liked it - I don't read a lot of fiction, but it was good and for the most part kept my attention. Lots of little details about University life are what made me laugh out loud (memos, receptions, etc.)

Amazingly violent for a kid's book. Now I know why my sister loved it when we were little, and became so serious in our "sword" fights and such.

This book was really well written true crime. It also does a nice job of placing the East Bay in its historical context. Really an awesome and creepy book.

This book was a total disappointment. Normally I will read a book and push through even if I don't really enjoy it, but this book was an exception. It was so far fetched and ridiculous that I sold it at a used book store when I wasn't even half way finished because the store credit was worth more to me than the book's content taking up space in my head. I really enjoy the Stephanie Plum series, but this "holiday special" totally stunk.
