3.5 stars. A fun, easy read. The nostalgia was a blast - seeing the games and movies from my childhood feature as plot points. However, I felt like the particular items chosen for the puzzles were too easy - they were many of the most popular from the 80's. I would have thought that the Halliday would have picked more obscure games and movies if he was obsessive as the book made him out to be, with more research required. A lot of names and titles were dropped, but it felt like it only skimmed the surface of the 80's culture. (And I don't believe for a second that the first clue would have taken 5 years to be solved. I've seen the way a forum community can just tear apart a riddle, puzzle, ARG, etc., or come up with surprisingly correct theories about upcoming fantasy novels or TV shows from the clues already given. Crowdsourcing is amazingly affective.) Lastly, the writing style - I felt "talked down" to by the author, who over-explained certain terms or the way things worked way too much. Are the people who read this book really not going to know what XP stands for? Maybe it's because I am firmly in the book's demographic (grew up in the 80's, geek by nature) but this is what kept it from getting a full 4 stars for me. Still worth reading - the phrase I'm stealing from another review is "the literary equivalent of a summer popcorn blockbuster."

She has an amazing way of interpreting science for kids (I attribute part of my love for science to this book). I also re-read this book as an adult.

The end to this series was a little anti climatic to me... the war seemed rushed as did the battle and aftermath, although I liked the twist with Niall... left a few loose ends as well, like what exactly happens to Leslie and Niall??? I liked the series but expected more from its finale.

I really liked the first few Drawing of the Three Stephen King books...although as time went on my interested petered out in the later books. Not sure why - whether it was the writing or the premise or just me getting bored with the whole thing.
