I'm not super fond of the illustration style, but the story is fun, and it went over really well in story time.

Food with a capital F saturates every page of this often predictable yet pleasant novel. Angelina's recipes are sprinkled throughout, though they look way too complicated to actually make. 'Tis a shame, because the author is creator and executive producer of a show on Food Network and has written cookbooks. This is his first novel, which isn't a surprise. His wife -- a culinary writer and producer -- is responsible for the recipes.

Wow. This is the rare book that is regularly assigned by schools to teens who actually enjoy it. It's not hard to see why. Orson Scott Card's classic completely, accurately, reflects the cruelty and complexity of both the juvenile and adult worlds, and a future world in which they depend on each other. The blend of perspectives creates an air of mystery for readers to solve, amid high stakes space sports and boarding school survival games. Absolutely haunting and powerful. The audio version works beautifully with the audio recordings of the various commanders interspersed. Anyone who's ever thought about war or child development should read this.

This was the first Nigella Lawson book I ever read, because I'd seen her recipe for ham in Coca Cola on the TV show of the same name and was dying to try it. I've made it several times since, along with many other of her recipes. In fact, every recipe I've tried (which has been most of them) has had fabulous results, most especially the orange breakfast muffins, lemon risotto, italian sausage with lentils, slow-roasted pork shoulder, and sticky-toffee dessert. The book isn't perfect, though it's not because of the recipes. There are massive (albeit gorgeous) pictures, tons of white space, and whole pages, sometimes two, devoted to recipes when only a quarter was needed (asparagus in a soft-boiled egg? mashed potatos? watermelon daquiri?), making one feel a bit cheated, considering the book's price. Still, I've used it enough to make up for the extra cost.

Nothing like the movie, in a few aspects. I really wish I had read this before the movie came out...

Flannery O'Connor was a genius; her multi-layered stories demand multiple readings and span the range from satirically hysterical to violently dark. A native Georgian, all of O'Connor's stories are set in the rural South and have a religious under-current to them, yet what O'Connor has to say about faith may surprise you … My all-time favourite author. Though all the stories are astounding, I’d most highly recommend the following: A Good Man Is Hard to Find Everything That Rises Must Converge Good Country People Greenleaf Judgment Day

GARIN K. HOVANNISIAN, the young author of this book, has been journalistically blessed (and historically cursed) with a family tree that exemplifies Armenia’s past hundred years. His great-grandfather Kaspar survived the Armenian genocide and traveled through violent post-war Turkey and the surrounding region before immigrating to the United States. His grandfather Richard is a leading scholar of the brief history of the Armenian Republic of 1918-1920. His father Raffi became Armenia’s first foreign minister upon independence from Soviet rule in 1991, and is currently a deputy in the Armenian National Assembly as an outspoken crusader for the independence of the Mountainous Karabagh region that has been a source of decades-long conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. I say 3.5 to maybe 4 stars. I didn't feel I could rate it any higher (than I did) having not really read it all. There is lot's of interesting stuff in there. I'm impressed with the author and all the knowledge in church history he has been able to gather. I'll probably skim through his other book, "500 MORE little known facts in Mormon History." someday.
