Mariana Rossi mar00 — Ugh. I had such high hopes for this book. None were met.

Brendan Grieble bggfx — When I read the first couple of pages of this book, detailing that the author would be giving a fictional account of his grandparents one of whom was institutionalized in one of the most famous mental institutions (also home to Jon Nash), I was really excited. This book sounded really interesting. As I began to read on, I found the author almost tip-toeing around the story of his grandfather whose mental state was not able stable. This made for a really dull story. There wasn’t a lot here and nothing I found really that compelling. Great idea, which I found poorly executed. 2&1/2 stars.

Ling Sir lingsir — I think this is an entertaining and easy introduction to historical linguistics (specifically relating to English), by one of my favorite nonfiction authors. I couldn't finish it because I got bored (I already know all this stuff!) but I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest.

Janorius Masiali jaydamaged — Sadly pedestrian use of Dorothy Sayers' fabulous characters. Every so often Harriet and Peter showed the spark you would expect, and there was the odd clever turn of phrase, but mostly it just made me want to go back and re-read Sayers' originals.

Becki Sisson _ecki_isson — To summarize quickly, this is a well written book, for sure. I enjoyed how all the characters were woven together, both past and present, and how the story flowed in and out of decades pretty seamlessly. Not so seamlessly that I could just pick up in the middle after abandoning the story for 3 weeks (I had to go back and re-read the first 33%!), but the story flowed well once I was reading. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I worked in the newspaper industry, as the non-fiction interview with Malcolm Gladwell that was inserted at the end of the book made me want to understand better this seemingly intimate world. One thing I did not really appreciate was how marriage was observed in many ways as informal, non-intimate, and casual, not worthy of respect. I know that not everyone in the world has the same views on marriage that I do, but for some reason it just irked me. Perhaps that's one more reason it wasn't as much of a page-turner as I thought it would be...

Simone Aiosa simoneaiosa — I thought it was better than the movie because it had more detailed scenes like when Batman fought Roul Als Ghoul at the beginning of the book, but didn't in the movie.
