This book has a series of situations where a shark and a train go up against each other. They are funny and its a great read aloud for kids to shout out who wins. At the end, you find out its two kids playing with a shark and train toy. That's a nice little twist.

I think I am going to love the WWII series better than the Vietnam one. I am really enjoying historical fiction. The author does a great job of checking his facts.

Maybe the best of the PI Bill Crane books, but they're all pretty amusing. Screwball hardboiled. Latimer went on to write a bunch of Perry Mason episodes. Supposedly he and Chandler drank together in La Jolla.

She is one of my favorite contemporary authors...the honesty in her writing describes ordinary emotional subtleties in a way that make them blast off the page in technicolor. She is also a Bay Area native, so the imagery and setting are familiar. This is a non-fiction, autobiographical work of hers.

I struggled through the first 100 pages of this book and then suddenly the stark imagery of the book, the simple beautiful language burst through and I couldn't read fast enough. Perfectly told through the eyes of a 16 year old boy, the writing voice had perfect pitch.
