Introduction by Ice T. After growing up in a world where the 60s and 70s were idealized by the artists in our parents generation, nothing in "Pimp: The Story of My Life" is particularly shocking. What is shocking is when you put it into perspective; Slim was doing all these things in the 30s and 40s. He had turned more whores then I am old by the time my father was born. He's talking about his allies, his good friends being strung out on herion far before the free love era of American history, before 1950s idealism and the revolution that followed. Drugs and sex are presently few peoples dirty little secrets. More often they are worn like merit badges. Slim thrived in a true world of erotic taboo, and yet still had to say 'yes sir', 'no sir' and answer to 'boy' to save his neck. With the exception of the first chapter and the epilodge, the book is very well written. And as pious as Ice T is, if you can read his introduction he makes a few good points. That when you're living out of the back of your car, and you read that Slim can make it, why can't you? I, for one, have never lived in the back of my car. Nor have I had to deal with any hardship that comes close to Iceberg Slim's life. But I can appreciate the sentiment, and what it meant for those growing up in hardship in the 70s and 80s. Anyway, that's this white girl's opinion. So take it for what it's worth.

** spoiler alert ** As someone who casually reads enormous books for fun (who needs a life when you've got history?) I like my biographies of Queen Victoria to be very, very long and very, very detailed. Hence the five stars. This book certainly fits both of those categories, but I found it very easy to read despite the length and, when I'd finished, went straight back to the beginning to hoover up any knowledge I might have missed the first time. However, I do have one small criticism. The index is pretty awful for such a long book. The catagories should be in alphabetical, not chronological order and sorted into categories. If you haven't quite got your head around the identities of Missy, Mossy, Minny, Ducky, Toria, Snipe and the rest of them, perhaps this book is not the best place to start, as royal nicknames can be extremely confusing. Minny, for example, is actually Princess Dagmar of Denmark, later Empress Marie Feodorovna, wife of Alexander III. With such an enormous family tree to contend with, you might want to read a more simple book about Queen Victoria before embarking upon this particular voyage of discovery, but it's worth it in the end. Trust me. I've been doing it since I was thirteen. In my opinion, this book is up with my 'Big Four' of Queen Victoria biographies, which would be a compliment if I were a famous analytical historian with thousands of important publications to my name. However, as a slightly sad eighteen year old with a slight (!) QV obsession, I still love it.

Gave a lot of good points on how to combat arthritis with natural means. This is especially important, considering that many of the so-called treatments of arthritis, such as the use of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs - e.g., Ibuprofen or other prescription anti-inflammatory drugs) that, with long-term use, actually prevent the production of chemicals that are responsible for helping to rebuild cartilage. Thus, they eventually hasten the progression of the disease despite providing short-term relief. Cortisone shots are even worse, and this too is a frequent medical treatment for arthritis. Hopefully surgery will get better, but at this point knee surgery is literally barbaric and stands out as one of the very most painful surgeries to have. In light of all this, I'm more than pleased that there are books such as Luke Bucci's out there that offer natural ways to combat arthritis and not just treat the symptoms, but hopefully improve and regrow some of the cartilage in the knee, which is what causes pain in the first place. Some of this I already knew since I'd done a great deal of research, but even for me this book held some new and very helpful information. I highly recommend for anyone that has arthritis or that is highly active even, as this book will help recommend a few simple ways to keep your joints healthy and pain-free.
