This book deals with quantum enigma and consciousness, the fact that at microscopic (quantum) scales weird things happen that our conscious mind cannot comprehend. The authors take their time to explain the quantum enigma (and I must admit they do this well), the fact that observation creates reality, and the reality (or experimental outcome) depends on the observation, contrary to our intuition originated from classical Physics that observation alone cannot affect reality. It is the final chapters when I started to feel uneasy about this book. I found subtle but nevertheless annoying sense of supernatural or weirdness being over emphasised to the extent of being mystical, and Physics being sidetracked. To set the record straight, I don't find consciousness mystical, philosophical or weird, to me it is as biological as my bones or blood. The fact that we cannot comprehend quantum enigma today does not necessarily mean that we are supposed to comprehend it despite our biological limitations, unless we find new ways of mapping physical reality into our limited view.

Este livro mostra-nos que o Amor está nas pequenas coisas, o Verdadeiro Amor passa muitas vezes por pequenos pormenores da vida aos quais muitas vezes não damos qualquer importância, pois nem sequer nos apercebemos deles, como é o caso deste: "... - És tu que me vais dar lições de Amor? Não deixem de ler este livro, pois tal como é hábito nos livros deste autor, tem uma bela Lição de Vida.

Tansy's unique abilities made her one of the most interesting of all the "Whitney Girls". While being unable to touch even the smallest item...without repercussions...Tansy remains strong and independant. The relationship with Kadan and Tansy moves quickly but is built through their trails and makes for a nice story. I'm actually looking forward to the next book.

Maybe I am a sucker for historical fiction, but I was impressed with the history of Florence (even the "monster of Florence"), as well as the restrictions on women, the rampant homosexuality of the day, and the struggles and excesses of the church incorporated into this novel. The plot includes a romance but certainly not a cloying one, and the sexual scenes are delicately done in beautiful language. The novel touches on so many human emotions: betrayal, tolerance as well as intolerance, jealousy, danger, friendship, loyalty, inevitability of fate, ...the list goes on.

Usually I'm not a big fan of Stephen King - he's a great writer but I usually not into his "weird" stuff. I saw a review online of this book that convinced me to give it a try and boy am I glad I did. The book is about a little nine-year-old girl (Trish) who loves baseball and especially loves Tom Gordon of the Red Sox. Now those two things would usually turn me off at the get-go but the way Stephen King writes in the voice of this spunky, funny little girl is one of the things that kept me turning the pages instead of going to sleep at night!! Trish ends up getting lost in the woods and the author keeps you constantly wondering what's going to happen to her, even when you're not reading the book!! This also takes place on the Appalachian trail - one of my favorite places (we enjoyed it in Tennessee - this takes place in Maine). I could really picture every part of her journey thanks to the author's amazing ability to paint it perfectly. I don't know if I would re-read this or not as I usually don't re-read many books at all, but I wouldn't mind having it on my shelf in case I ever decided to. Loved it!!

Jacob has one final surprise for Brenda, and it will push her out of her comfort zone, but her love for Jacob opens her mind to enjoy his secret fantasies. “To sexually adventurous individuals and couples, who seek to feed their sexual appetites. To those who live vicariously through fiction in order to drive their imaginations wild, to stoke their fiery libidos, and ultimately enrich their means of escapism from the real world.” This quote from author Jennifer Wren is provided as an opening to the tale and is a fitting description of this story. It is an exploration of sexual fantasy, of a woman discovering a new side of her fiancé and her own ability to embrace the fluidity of her own sexuality. It is pure fantasy, and not necessarily the most realistic of setups, yet can be enjoyed for what it is, a quick and sexually charged tale of a couple indulging in the forbidden. With four participants, there are all combinations of partners represented here, but the most important is that between Brenda and Jacob. The other two characters are exceedingly attractive pawns to the playful encounter between the couple. The erotic content is not overdone and instead is tightly written, with the end result being arousing because of the overall situation and reactions from Brenda. Readers who can appreciate all spectrums of sex will be able to enjoy this short story, which drives to its climax almost too quickly. This is a tale meant to arouse and spark the imagination and it hits the mark. There is no need to ponder the sexuality of each character, and it’s enough to accept that there is a fluid range and these characters are willing to blur the dividing lines to enjoy themselves and each other.

After I read the 9th book in the "Y: The Last Man" series, I decided the explanation of the plague that killed all the men (but one) was so lame that I didn't want to read the 10th (and last) book. I'm glad Jim bought "Whys and Wherefores" for me anyway. Wow! What a great way to end the series. Yorick finally meets up with Beth, his girlfriend, who he's been seeking for the past 10 books. And he figures out what true love is. (If you've read any of the books, you should already know the answer.) The book gets a bit meta, and there's an admission that the explanation of the plague was "vaguely unsatisfying." (I'll say! I can totally respect that.) And, of course, there's the counterpoint that any explanation would be unsatisfying. But aliens or some prehistoric curse still would have been pretty cool. The conflict of the past 10 books is resolved and the characters move on with their lives - some in unexpected ways. And it's great to see that. I've followed these people through 10 books, across the globe, through sword fights with ninjas and gun fights with Israeli soldiers. I don't want a trite happily-ever-after ending. And the last panel. Oh, the last panel is so perfect.
