Joy Das joydas — Let me preface this with my Earthsea background. I read the first 3 books when I was young and loved them. Then did them again on audio a couple years ago and enjoyed the 1st and 3rd books but thought the 2nd one was slow. Then I read -Techanu- and thought it was more like an interlude with a plot added in at the end for good measure. -Stories of Earthsea- was barely passable and now this -The Other Wind- left me with a final bad taste for a series I loved for a long time. It was nice to hang out with some old friends (Ged, Tenar etc...) but at some point toward the end it started this downward spiral into incomprehensibility. There would be a section I just didn't get but I'd just move on hoping that it would make sense later. It never did. When it ended I had no idea what had happened. Was it just too simple? I do see a lot of reviewers saying that the ending was predictable. I don't even know who was still alive at the end. It seemed like a bunch of snippets of action that never got resolved. Was it some type of literary experiment? I'm not sure, but my final stance on Earthsea is: Read the first 3 books and pretend the others don't even exist.

Gorshenin Stanislav handfighter — Maybe I am a sucker for historical fiction, but I was impressed with the history of Florence (even the "monster of Florence"), as well as the restrictions on women, the rampant homosexuality of the day, and the struggles and excesses of the church incorporated into this novel. The plot includes a romance but certainly not a cloying one, and the sexual scenes are delicately done in beautiful language. The novel touches on so many human emotions: betrayal, tolerance as well as intolerance, jealousy, danger, friendship, loyalty, inevitability of fate, ...the list goes on.

Twisteddot Architects _wisted_ot — This is a hugely important book to me. Everytime I need some direction, am depressed with the state of the world, and/or I don't know what the hell is going on with my life, I have to read this book. It's hopeful and optimistic to a degree that I could never be; a perfect foil, if you would. This book could be my mentor in design. It was, and still is an absolute must-read for me.

Dave Török tdave777 — The best book in the entire series. It's an action-packed novel that will keep you hooked 'till the end. You see Harry mature through all 7 books, but in this one he really steps up to the plate and takes responsibility for his actions and really becomes a man.

Ara Go goabek9f31 — My kids introduced me to the Hunger Games series. It was written for a YA audience, but adult readers will appreciate it as well I am sure. Suzanne Collins rocks, and she does not pull any punches. I think that is vital in teen-oriented novels. Never black and white--every shade of gray is explored.
