a great one that few have read. Does take some work to get into as the narration jumps randomly (A Sound and the Fury initial confusion rating of two stars), but once there it is good stuff. sometimes i live in the city/sometimes i live in the town

This is a truly awesome book - in the tradition of lift-the-flap with wonderful simple drawings and facts about what kids can do to help. Highly recommend.

Although the author doesn't overtly say that this novel is at least semi-autobiographical, he alludes to that fact in his 'Author's Note' at the end of the book. This coming of age story follows Clem Ackroyd's life from the way in which his parents met during World War II, his childhood and youth in Norfolk, England after the war, his teen years during the Cuban missile crisis, up to the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York on September 11, 2001. It is , then, a Boomer's life, albeit a British Boomer's life. Several times it put me in mind of another YA novel, "Countdown" by Deborah Wiles, which examined coming of age during the Cuban missile crisis from this side of the pond. Much of the book recounts the budding romance of Clem and the wealthy landowner's daughter, Frankie. As the romance heightens in tension, the standoff between the USA and the Soviet Union over the construction of missile bases in Cuba creates a parallel tension. Mr. Peet seems to have done a lot of research into the period, and intersperses the text with behind-the-scenes conversations and meetings of politicians and military leaders in both Washington D.C and Moscow. It's an interesting look at the time period from a British perspective.

This book is about text messaging with God by reading His Word for His message, and by praying your part of the conversation. Each chapter provides a snippet of a devotional for women to follow to help bring us closer to God. As women we're always doing multiple things at once, but when it comes to our relationship with God, we can't multi-task and communicate with Him at the same time. However, if we take small chunks out of our day away from all the distractions - cell phones, kids, work, being a mom, being a wife - we can use that time to have a conversation with God. This is the type of book you can carry in your purse, leave in your car, at your desk, or on your nightstand. Whenever you have a few minutes you can pick it up, open it to any page, and receive some inspiration on what to talk to God about. Obviously it's not a substitution for your Bible, but it's a pretty good, pretty cute, and pretty fun companion. This makes a great gift for your mother, sister, or even your best friend. Tyndale House Publishers provided me with a complimentary copy of this book to facilitate my review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I felt connected with the characters and got a peak into what it was like to live during that time period. I would recommend it to all!

This is more of a "girl-read" than I am used to reading. It is a concise and short book filled with a vivid cast of characters and period detail. Best thing about the book though, is its astonishing (but tragic) ending.
