I think it is highly essential to read up on those who are stepping up to the plate to be the next president of the United States. I really got a sense for Hillary and really appreciated the background on this democratic candidate. I was apprehensive at first because I was afraid that it would be filled with political jargon, but its a great read.

As always, John Sandford writes an intriguing book. Even though the subject matter is very disturbing, it was difficult to put the book down.

I figure I wouldn't be a decent fencer if I hadn't read The Three Musketeers. The book doesn't actually contain a lot of sword fighting (I guess it comes off better on film than in text), but it is an excellent story nonetheless and worthy of being the classic that it is known to be. The plot is twisty, but not hard to negotiate, and the characters are fun and engaging. I always assumed the book had been written much earlier than it was (like in the 1600s, at the time it depicts, rather than 1844), so that was an interesting surprise, and I'm not sure whether its the translation I read (from 1984), but the language is not as archaic and flowery as I expected (even for 1844), so it was easy to read and felt quite modern. It's also very witty and amusing - again, not sure if that's the translator or Dumas coming through, but either way, it made for an enjoyable read. Much recommended!

I don't really read much Christian fiction. While this was an enjoyable and satisfying story, I was troubled by the fact that every non-Christian character in the book was totally devoid of morals. The plotline was extremely predictable.

The first time I attempted to read this book, I only made it about half way through. It just didn't excite me. I made another attempt a few years later and got it read. It's a good story sprinkled with elements of fantasy.

I feel a little awkward giving this book only three stars. It wasn't really as bad as that, but I just don't think the book was very fair. It seemed to me like the author had his characters do things they didn't seem likely to do, based on the characteristic he gave them. It's one thing to impose hard-to-believe events upon the lives of your characters and have them live their way through it, and another to have them act out of the person you've established them to be. Still an interesting read, though.
