Imagine Life with a Well-Behaved Dog is a wonderful training manual for anyone who has a dog or is thinking of getting one. It is well organized covering a variety of topics ranging from considerations before adopting, obedience training and caring for dogs with special needs. The layout allows the reader to either read from start to finish or quickly flip to specific topics by consulting the index. I liked the addition of a “fun things to do with your dog” section detailing lesser known dog sports like fly ball, earth trials and disc dogs. Julie Bjelland does an excellent job laying out force free training methods that will help owners improve their bonds with their dogs and get the pups to listen to commands. She covers all the basic tricks an owner would expect (sit, down, stay, heel) as well as some more complicated ones like high-five and play dead. Inside you’ll also find tips on now to handle common problems like excessive barking, separation anxiety, chewing and aggression. The steps are easy to follow and provide warning signs so even if your dog doesn’t display bad behaviors you know what to watch for to stop it before it starts. My two complaints about the book are its repetitive nature and questionable spay/neutering advice. At 256 pages the book isn’t long but it feels like it would have been much better as a slim 200 page-training manual. I agree with the author it is important to be calm when training, but a detailed description of her meditation techniques felt out of place and some of the pictures and quotes felt superfluous. Also there are numerous letters from owners with problems, the solutions to these problems was usually the same information we just read retold in slightly different words or with bullet points. My other complaint is Julie restates the ASPCA’s recommendation of getting your dog spayed or neutered at 6 months. Current scientific literature shows this is likely too early and you should wait until your dog reaches sexual maturity (12 to 18 months) to avoid potential health risks. (see Laura J. A good friend of mine recommended this book to me while she was reading it, so I went to check out the synopsis. I’m a huge Shakespeare geek so anything that has to do with him or his work interests me, so needless to say I was immediately intrigued by this book. Romeo and Juilet is one of my favorite Shakespeare plays so I was really anxious to see how this story would turn out, and I have to say that I was amazed by this. From the amount of rich detail in this story you can easily see that the author really took their time and did their research. The story flowed smoothly and was so well crafted that at times I almost forgot that this wasn’t how the original story played out. The events that happen after the couple faked their suicides and are on the run had me captivated to the very end. You can really feel the suspense and heartbreak that the couple experiences as you’re drawn into the story. I thought the development of the characters was very well done. The author showed a new side to each of the characters so as the reader you get to know them in a different way, and I think that added some extra depth to the story. Now I admit that there were times when Romeo came off as slightly annoying, but I was able to over look that little issue because I was enjoying the story so much. I also thought that it was really neat that there were characters from other Shakespeare plays included in this book. I definitely recommend this book, especially if you love Shakespeare! I’ll be re-reading this again for sure! 4.5 Stars! <3 Taylor

If I could rate this a 2.5 I would - it wasn't good enough to be good but it was a little better than okay. I felt some inconsistencies between Cass's acceptance of her own sexuality - one day she was unsure and hiding things, and the next she was fully accepting and discussing it with friends.

Another great one from carrie vaughn. i love all her kitty books. they are awesome. she is trying to get married and of course that doesnt happens when she wants it to. first the groom comes up missing. and then people are gunning for her. and really she had enemies from all sides. but it all ends well. and it sets up the next book"kitty raises hell". i will be reading that one soon. i have it i just have to read it. but great book.

Despite recent news reports saying that many of the stories in this book are made up and something about fiscal mismanagement, I learned so much about the culture Greg Mortenson has immersed himself in! If he really did just half of what he claims, that in itself is so totally amazing! What a fascinating person and more power to him in his attempts to educate the girls in these backward countries!

I must admit that I was not entirely impressed by this tale of a mail-order bride who arrives with the intention of poisoning her new husband in order to inherit his fortune. From the beginning, neither Ralph Truitt nor Catherine Land were particularly likable characters. While both were somewhat more sympathetic by the novel's conclusion, the characters still appeared remote and unbelievable. An interesting read, but not exceptional.
