It's nice to see things from Polgara's perspective, but a lot of what I was most interested in was skipped over. There are also some inconsistencies from the earlier texts (which is only natural, over so much time). I have to admit I was also a little bothered by some of the double standards about chastity and sexuality, when comparing what Belgarath got up to, and what Polgara was forbidden to do.

What can I say about Mr. Burroughs? Nothing but great stuff! I laughed until my sides hurt!

The main problem is that Yelena is struggling with killing Reyad still and she has to deal with Valek and all his tests and all the people after her. They never exactly mention what time period it's in but it seems like it would be more in the past like 1800's and it takes place in Ixia a colony where it is run by the Commander with military districts. The main character is Yelena and she is a free spirit who still struggles with her past but is still very confident. And one of the Antagonists is Valek, who she learns she actually loves in the end but in the middle she fights with her feelings towards him because he's the bad guy. I liked this book so much! It was just like I could never put it down because of all the different feelings that every character in the book contributed. This is one of the quotes from the book that I think described it perfectly, "Locked in darkness that surrounded me like a coffin, there was nothing to distract me from my memories. Vivid recollections that waited to ambush me whenever my mind wandered." It describes the book because that is what Yelena struggles with the whole time during the book, her memories and past. A good theme for this book is "Always look toward the future and untie the knots of your past." I recommend this book to young readers who enjoy fantasy, mystery, and a touch of romance.

Wrenching and exquisite, Doerr manages to make tremendously varried plot, setting, and characters seem inevitable yet unpredictable. Sentence to sentence the prose shines. An overpowering, understated book. Worth it for the water.

Can I give this more than 5 stars? I certainly would if I could. I resisted this book after it won the Newbery because it sounded too macabre, too "on the dark side". And yes, at times it is a little creepy---it takes place in a graveyard after all! But what a story! I listened to the audiobook, so while I missed out on great illustrations, I had the pleasure of hearing the author read his tale to me. Entertaining, inventive, exciting. I laughed, and I cried. Age 10 might be a bit too young in my opinion--age 12+ is more like it. By the way, on the author's website for young readers, www.mousecircus.com, you can watch/listen to the author read the book IN ITS ENTIRETY, chapter by chapter. What a treat!

Revolutionary Road is everything I love about Fiction. The story is interesting, the characters are relatable, the writing is exceptional. I loved the psychology, the language and the prose. Richard Yates where have you been all my life?

This is one of my favorite distopian novels I've read in awhile. The writing is good, the characters are dynamic and intriguing, and the storyline is creative. I was left yearning for the next book in the series. With the ever increasing number of Hunger Games wannabes, I was a bit reluctant to pick this novel up. I was pleasantly surprised to find a new storyline that I entirely enjoyed reading; could hardly put it down, in fact. Yeah for a new distopian series! Between this series and Lauren Oliver's Delerium series, I should be content for a little while at least.

I really, really enjoyed this book. Easy, readable prose. Great story about women. Their relationships. Growth. Life. Has a few F-bombs but would definitely recommend it.

This story, which follows a young girl, Liz, on her journey after her death, is a beautiful, real account of life, only backwards. Liz ends up traveling to 'Elswhere' - not the heaven or paradise we usually associate the afterlife with, but remarkably like earth, only with a twist - you age backwards. This book, although rather simply written (I thought) is perfect for anyone, young or old. The ending is particularly beautiful.
