Perhaps one of my favorite books. I've read it many times and each time, I gleen something new from its pages. Personally, I think it's essential for anyone interested in the world beyond the end of their nose. From how history works, especially in our country, to how politics works, 1984 speaks so much to all of us. Like 2001 and many other books, it can be surface read for the story. Even with surface reading, the reader should be able to pull out life lessons. Subsequent readings will reveal the depth and truth of what Orwell saw as our future. Savvy readers will see how it is our present.

Started this book 4pm yesterday and I could not put it down until I'd finished it at 1am this morning. Ms Holman is a Kiwi author and Bonkers is set on Auckland North Shore, not far from where I live, so it was fun to be able to visualise as events unfolded. I felt Lisa's frustration and just wanted to shake Dan to get him to understand. Although he was totally hot! Similar to Drop Dead Diva which has recently began on TV in New Zealand. I wonder if the tv series was based on this book?

This book gets a lot of glowing reviews, and I agree that it's a good book for what it does cover (and I've recommended it on a number of occasions). But - there are a few things about it to be aware of. First, it covers non-monagomous relationships from a decidedly poly-* viewpoint. People/couples looking into this from the lifestyle community/perspective may find this a bit disconcerting (no, neither one is "better" than the other, blah blah blah - but they are different, and it's good to keep those differences in mind while reading). Also, the section on dealing with jealosy is a bit thin - we've heard back from several couples that we've recommended this book to that they didn't find this particular section particularly helpful or useful. All that said, it's still one of the best (if not the best) books on the topic.

This goes under good summer reading. I took up with this book when I was 18, during a visit to a very balmy Manhattan. Couldn't put the damn thing down. My boyfriend scolded me for missing out on the city but there I was experiencing the city right in the pages of this book.
