I highly enjoyed this book! Though it was pretty obvious who Kat's parents were, I still found myself intrigued by all the clues she found. I loved seeing a softer side to Queen Elizabeth and really liked her and Kat's friendship. I wish we could have gotten more of Anna, though!

I am now officially a fan of Fables. The first two volumes of the series were lackluster -- pretty much saved by the great ideas behind them, not so much the mediocre execution. But the third volume blew my mind in terms of pacing, storytelling, and art. Does it always take this long for graphic novel series to start getting into its groove? (I'm thinking also of Y The Last Man.) (Graphic novels, fairy tales)

I'd give this a 2.5. The characters were just sooooo unlikeable that it was painful to read. It didn't really become bearable until page 500 or so, but it was certainly well written. And, fortunately, the ending was much better than I expected. I think it would make a better indie movie than a 560+ page book.

Goodreads win. Thank you. Had to read this immediately, as trip to grandchild coming up, and I know she will just love this book. Brilliant writing, funny, witty and a who dun-nit, as well as the mystery of an orphaned child, of which is still a mystery of "where did Wilma come from"? Wilma Tenderfoot is just that, a tenderfoot of detectives, a brilliant child who loves dogs and clues, and who dreams of life outside the orphanage. Wilma travels from orphanage to adventures, going into dark, gnarly and grisly places on her journey to freedom. Along the way, she enjoys corn crumble biscuits. As a bonus, there is a recipe shared in the back of the book, of which I am afraid to try! It does not include slugs though, so perhaps better than "Vissers" Slug soup! Corn Crumbles do not sound like hobnobs, however, they are loved by the characters in this book, none the less. I recommend this book for ones grand children's reading list. Which means, now I have to buy the others in the series! Can't wait!

He’s ruthless and very good at his job. This is a hard life and has made Charles seem cold and distant to most others. Anna Latham Cornick knows the other side of Charles, as she’s his mate. She was turned into a werewolf against her will and brutalized by her pack for years. She’s slowly adjusting to her new role as Charles’s wife and her role as Omega. As an Omega she’s able to calm the emotions of other wolves and is considered an asset to the pack. Charles's father Bran is the leader of all the North American packs and he's decided that it's time the werewolves reveal themselves to humans. Not everyone is on board with this decision. He sends Anna and Charles to meet with a delegation of alpha wolves from Europe to discuss the implications this will have for the wolves. While there Anna is attacked by a group of vampires that seem to be wielding pack magic. Now Charles and Anna must find out if the attack was personal or a warning to Bran. Hunting Ground is the second book in the Alpha and Omega series. It continues to build on the relationship between Anna and Charles while furthering the storyline of revealing the pack to humans. Although they are mates, Anna is still wary because of the traumatization she suffered with her old pack. Charles makes a great hero because he's so understanding of Anna's situation. I love the way their relationship is developing slowly throughout the books as they learn about each other. Anna is really starting to grow as an omega wolf becoming more confident with her abilities. We also get to see a softer side of Charles as he takes care of Anna even if it means denying his need to protect her. Ms. Briggs does a great job of blending urban fantasy, romance and mystery in this book. The action is non-stop and there are several twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. Even though the book is about werewolves, fae and vampires, the way it's written made it feel as if it could be real. The characters are fleshed out and the world building is done in a very believable way. There are also a lot of new characters introduced in this book, and I'm hoping that we'll get to learn more about them as this series evolves. Overall this was a great read and I can't wait for future installments!
