Pure torture; the book is so cliche. I skimmed the last third of the book (something like the first sentence of each paragraph) and still knew what was going on. Young adult lit. should provide more for its readers.

Typical Gibson characters (weirdly dressed cool kids and/or black marketeers) in a typical Gibson plot (espionage, technology, and art). It eschews much of what made Pattern Recognition a mundane letdown (constant checking of hotmail accounts and message boards) and the art is fresher, but it still kills me that this is what he writes after the majesty of Neuromancer and Count Zero.

Ok, now this was just brilliant. A shepherd is murdered and his sheep decide it is only right that they find his murderer. There's something strange going on in the small Irish town of Glennkill, and George's Flock intends to find out what. Along the way, however, they must brave the dangers of the Butcher, God, and an invading flock. Swann does an amazing job of portraying the sheep as *sheep* (albeit frighteningly intelligent ones) rather than humans that look like sheep. Half the fun is in trying to translate an event from the sheep's perspective into a human one in order to put together the clues.

Great thriller that never stops moving, but I can say that about any of Swiercynski's books. Guy has a way of getting you to burn through his books like nobody's business. Highly recomended.

Well, I received this book as a gift from a friend of the author. In all honesty the fact that it was about Dallas social climbing and by a true Texas girl, I was interested...at first. The beginning is dead on with the accuracy of inside protocol (it made me laugh out loud at times that it was all actually in print). However, towards the middle of the book it appeared to be on a deadline or Gatlin was just ready to get it over with. The second half of the book lacked the movement and "truth" that the first half possessed. Not bad but something that could be put down because you just lost interst...maybe a good summer pool read (as long as some people don't see you reading a book containing the words "Christian" and "Bitches" in the title...because that is just not right...ha).

I really enjoyed reading this book. Berg's characters are always very well developed, but I became more invested in these than even in her other books, and I am not entirely sure why. The book is more than a little manipulative, but I didn't really mind it in this context.

The subtitle describes it pretty well..("the amazing true story of a young family, a broken down zoo and the wild animals that changed their lives forever") except that it doesn't mention that the young mother is diagnosed with a brain tumor right in the midst of the purchase of the zoo. Written by the husband--and first time zoo director--this is an amazing story of triumph on all sorts of levels. An added enjoyment were the animal "factoids" that surprised me. Who knew that tigers have sensors to detect a victim's pulse in their two front canine teeth so that their lethal bite on the back of the neck will be successful?! It was also fascinating to learn about the "behind the scenes" activities and legal requirements connected to running a zoo!
