This book is incredible. First of all, I know it is a work of fiction. However, the book makes an incredible point about the media and quite literally the State of Fear that they try to whip the public into. Global warming is the choice topic here but the appliction of the State of Fear attitude to other things within the book says everything about our current culture. Man can't change everything and often just makes things worse as indicated by the Yellowstone Park experiment within the book. This book shows the need to question everything that the media tell the public. This book made me thing about a lot of things and not just global warming. Easily Crichton's best since Andromeda Strain.

Another very funny Discworld novel. This time the witches have a visit from some ultra modern vampires who are doing their utmost to avoid all the cloches one associates with vampires (none of this leaving crosses and stakes lying round the castle that can be used against you by some scantily clad young women or wearing dinner jackets at any other time than at dinner!). They come to Lancre invited as guests to the kings wedding and decide to stay and take over using mind control to subdue everyone….everyone apart from the witches that is who in the words of granny weatherwax ‘ cant be having with it’! I love a Discwold novel when I’m feeling fed up and in need of a good chuckle. It made me laugh out loud and I bored my boyfriend silly by reading out loud particularly funny extracts…or so I thought! Terry does get better with each novel and I am really enjoying rereading all his novels.

Initially I thought, 'Me? Read a romance about teenage vampires? You have got to be kidding!' I resisted as long as I could, (longer than most)and then I got the flu. I needed to read something to occupy myself while in bed. Needless to say, I have indeed been bitten by the vampire love-bug.

North Adams is a small town. This author (she is using a nom-de-plume) is a native, provides a de facto commentary on the old and the new here through this mystery novel. Probably more interesting as a semi-anthropological study, but entertaining enough.
