One of my all-time favorite books. I've read it many times over and every time it's a different read. You will never forget the character of Owen Meany.

Dole is a hoot and a holler and left new holes on the my snout! I was lucky enough to get an advance copy from...wait for it...Colin Farrell! My cousin walks his dog when he's off on a shoot and she pinched it from his coffee table! Amazing, but he wrote on the inside "make a great movie!" I'm not kidding, he really wrote that! Anyway, we returned it after reading, but I think Colin is right. It WOULD make a great movie! Hilarious! Anyways, can't wait till it comes out - you'll love it the best!

"You should only read what is truly good or what is frankly bad." -Stein When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest. The only thing that could spoil a day was people and if you could keep from making engagements, each day had no limits. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself. By then I knew that everything good and bad left an emptiness when it stopped. But if it was bad, the emptiness filled up by itself. If it was good you could only fill it by finding something better. There is not much future in men being friends with great women although it can be pleasant enough before it gets better or worse, and there is usually even less future with truly ambitious women writers. Picasso told me that he always promised the rich to come when they asked him because it made them so happy and then something would happen and he would be unable to appear.

Fantastic. Throughout the book you see things coming, but you can't look away because of how they are presented. It is kind of like rubbernecking at a car accident in a good way. I constantly found myself having to force myself to stop reading in order to process what I'd read. The style is pure Max Barry: serious stuff but presented in a frothy foamy way that you don't actually realize that he's not glossing over things but he's handing you bigger and bigger things to chew on. By the time you realize you've got a mouthful you are choking on the ideas. I read this book faster than I've read any recent book I've picked up. Worth your time.

Not as good as the first and I'll likely not continue with the series. I did like the adventures and misadventures Alexia partakes in, but the story didn't have much punch for me.

After realizing this is a YA book, I wrongly compared it to Twilight. After realizing my mistake, I started looking at it as a preview for my 13 old. The verdict is.... She'd probably like it. Definitely YA though, but NOT even close to as as addictive as Twilight. I could probably see Taylor Lautner as The Summer King though.

Typical Seuss: cheeky, fun, rhyming rundown of a "people house"

Where has this author disappeared to? How can you write a book this good, and then just stop? I finished this book nearly 4 years ago, and it's still one of my absolute favorite. I'd buy her next book in a heartbeat if it's even half as good as this one.

My Thoughts: In Playing With The Boys, we are introduced to Lucy. Lucy lives with her father and is forced to move to Los Angeles. She lost her mother and her father wants to get away from all the memories so he drags Lucy across the country. Lucy has to make new friends, go to a new school, and basically learn how to be a California girl, which is harder than you would think. On her first day of school she meets a boy named Benji. She and Benji become good friends. Then there is another boy who she has a crush on. Oh I guess I'm forgetting something here. Lucy tries out for the soccer team. She's good at soccer and figures this is a way to meet friends. But she doesn't make the team so instead she tries out for the Football team and she does make that one. Her father forbids her from playing because its too dangerous but Lucy plays anyways. Playing With The Boys was a fun read, but not too deep. None of the characters really clicked with me the way I wanted. I still enjoyed reading it but if your looking for a football themed book, you might also want to try Catching Jordan. Overall: Liked it quite a bit but didn't love it. It was a quick read though so I finished it in one sitting. Cover: Like it, but mostly I like the football players legs in the background. They add a certain spunk! What I'd Give It: 4/5 Cupcakes ____ Review Based On Paperback Edition Taken From Princess Bookie www.princessbookie.com
