I adore Andrew Clements and his books. I love that he makes children the heroes and heroines, the thinkers, and the world shakers. This short, but thoughtful book touched me because of the military aspect...and once again his characters are keepers...

An intriguing read. I enjoyed "A Secret History" more, but this was entertaining and light. A frothy blend mixing mystery, coming-of-age, and adventure. Perfect for a plane ride.

second in series - both good, enjoyable reads. the author certainly has a knack for drama and "ah-ha" moments. will look forward to the third book which comes out later this year.
This book was great. I can't wait to read the rest of her books.

This book is about a nine year old German girl named Liesel who is given up by her mother to live with a couple in Germany. The book takes place during world war II.Hans helps Liesel learn to read, and during a book buring she is seen taking a book. She goes on to befreiend a Jew named Max, whom Hans has taken in to hide. The two become friends and Max writes stories about Liesel and Max's friendship. Hans gets drafted into the military and Max is seen marching to a concentration camp.Liesel goes on to write stories about her life and survive WWII. This is a great book about life during WWII.It is for older students and would be great to integrate history lessons about the war into it.

when you know a friend really well, and you have for a long time, and know everything there is know to about her - her childhood stories, her relationships with her family members and other friends, all the "people in her neighborhood" - she can tell you something and in a few words you know exactly what is going on and how she feels about it. somehow, marjane satrapi has managed to make the reader of persepolis feel like her best friend: reading persepolis, although it doesn't have many words, the impact is out of proportion to them. perhaps it's that the pictures say thousands of words. perhaps it's satrapi's ability to get things down to their essences. perhaps it's her honesty - her willingness to share even her uncharitable thoughts. anyhow, beyond what this gives you in terms of an insight into the experience of living in iran after the revolution, this book gives the rare gift of intimacy. i highly recommend it.

Mad props for male, Western author who can so accurately narrate in the voice of a female, Japanese Geisha. And the story is compelling to boot....

I will give my take on this book in a few weeks. Too soon after reading to give accurate description of my feelings about the book and its author.
