What an amazing book. I read it in a day and want to start again from the top. The author, Chris Cleave, weaves a marvelous tale and his sentences, metaphors, analogies are simply amazing! The dustcover of the book contains only five sentences: "This is the story of two women. Their lives collide one fateful day, and one of them has to make a terrible choice, the kind of choice we hope you never have to face. Two years later, they meet again – the story begins there … Once you have read it, you'll want to tell your friends about it. When you do,please don't tell them what happens. The magic is in how the story unfolds."

This books themes and overall plot were fantastic and action packed- I connected with the main character immediately! It reminds me of Deathwatch and Running Man, and I cannot wait for the second book to come out to see what happens next.

I read this first last August 2011. Looking back, I thought that this book was very interesting and amazing. After reading it the second time, I still think that it's interesting. But amazing? Not so much anymore. What compelled me to read this book (the first time) was the plot. Genetic engineering is interesting, especially if it's some kind of virus that kills people. That's super interesting. I wish the author provided more descriptions and explanations about their genetic problems. My opinion on this genetic problem is that it's so simple and it makes me wonder why their supposed to be smarter generation haven't figured it out yet. (view spoiler) The characters--Rhine, Gabriel, Linden, Cecily, Janna, and Vaughn--didn't look as appealing as they did the first time around. They appeared as annoying, weak, and wimpy. All of them except for Janna who to this day, remains my favorite out of the six major characters. Linden comes second to my character list. He remained true, straight-forward, sweet, thoughtful, and he respected Rhine's wishes throughout the book. My only complaint is that he is too clueless about what's happening in his own home and wives. Oh, and he's selfish, too. Speaking of selfish, Rhine is a very selfish character, too. (view spoiler) Not to mention, stupid. If she didn't answer the ad for the bone marrow transplant, she wouldn't have been taken. So, yes, 4 stars pretty much sums it up. I'm looking forward to reading Fever--and Gabriel better man up or else. Re-read last July 16, 2012.

I enjoyed this military/terrorist type thriller. The writing style was different from most military thrillers. It was less immediate than most. The author told the story from a degree of separation. There was a lot of technical stuff and descriptions of who was doing what, watching what, planning what. Still the story revolved around the character of Mike and ex SAS man who had the skills to pass as an Afghan. He went deep undercover to discover and foil a terrorist plot. Even though the story was told at a certain distance you still knew his character well and were invested in his story/quest. I wasn't real fond of the ending but it fitted the book.
