Sookie is summoned to a vampire summit that will decide the fate of Queen Sophie-Anne and also advances Sookie's relationships with various supernatural men. Sookie doesn't get beat up, but others do.

Really, really interesting. I grew up knowing the story of Dorothy and the Wicked Witch by heart. But Wicked makes you look at it so differently. Was Elphie REALLY all that wicked? Or was she just driven and bitter, after a rough life? If one thing had been changed about her past, how differenty would the story have turned out? It just makes you think... I would've given it four stars. But I'm not a huge fan of descriptive sexual scenes...I don't really think they're necessary, usually. Of course there are exceptions, but anyways. It was a good book. As always, I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!

This is only the second book I've read by Cormac McCarthy. I have to say that I enjoyed All the Pretty Horses much more than this one. I'm also excited to continue that trilogy, but I thought I would take a different tack and try this one out first. Like my initial experience with McCarthy, I fully enjoy his writing and find it very different than anything else I've read. The story of this book was also interesting. But it's not on my list of favorites for the simple reason that some of the writing and story were a bit much to bare. Also, I find myself more and more looking for books and stories and movies that in some way show an idea of redemption. Without this it is just a depressing commentary on humanity--leaving out the idea of grace. And these days I don't have time for anything that doesn't in some way recognize Grace and Redemption.

Set in 1793 in a fictional Cooperstown, NY, it tells the story of Judge Marmeduke Temple. Started off slow and didn't really go anywhere - but an interesting portrayal of life in upstate NY in 1790 as this was the frontier at that time.

I read this free, short story because it's a prequel to a series I was considering to read. As I'm sure its' intent is to tease us into purchasing the rest, that isn't what it did for me. I have read many prequels before and they truly were a tease and I would purchase the series with glee and excitement. The difference between them and this one is that the prequels I've read in the past have been books unto themselves. Even if you don't purchase the series, you've felt like you had a good read and it was worth your time and effort. The prequel offered a good story, some interesting characters, they created a foundation for the rest of the series and you felt good about going into the series with some knowledge and a certain expectation. The New World was not like that at all. It was nothing more than an ad. Quite frankly, it felt like a magazine article. It was way too short, the characters fell flat and the only tease was the very last line. Perhaps they should have used just the last line as the prequel and skipped the rest of the short story. Will I run out and buy the series? Someone will have to talk me into it...

This is a completely new genre for me. I generally have a tough time suspending reality so I don't read fantasy. This book has changed my mind I think I might just like fantasy it sure is exciting. i could barely put it down. I usually find young adult with too much angst and overbearing romance. That is why I never made it through Twilight. This book was on the level of adult fiction just about teenagers and a first novel of this author. I highly recommend!
