An incredible underrated prose stylist. Hunters is THE Korean War book. There are three men I think of that write about the wars that they were involved in better than anyone. Hemingway(World War 1 and the Spanish Civil War), Tim O'Brien(Vietnam) and Salter(Korean War). Just read anything Salter wrote and revel in the beauty of his writing.

So far...so good. As I kid, I remember enjoying the movie. The reviews I've read say that it is about so much more than a cute little story, so I'm looking forward to reading it from an adult perspective.

It is a very hard read as it is so sad, the thought of losing all your memories or watching someone loose themselves is heartbreaking. But I thoroughly enjoyed it, the love, devotion and hope was inspiring. And even though Nicholas Sparks writes love stories they don't always have a happy ending. I saw the film a few years ago, and for the last chapters of the book I don't remember seeing the hardship in the film. Do need to watch the film again though to compare.

I read this in a sitting at Powell's Books in Portland; a short romp for TR and longish for a children's book, yet just enough to be a silly faerie tale, a historical instruction manual, a Willy Wonka of the alcoholic kind and a dream with a happy ending. Laden with TR's usual humor, wit, and magical phrases, it's as philosophically wise-cracking as a cartoon, but like that cartoon, some of the references & themes are clearly meant for adults while the gags and creatures are for the little people. Red-haired fairies, sugar-elfs, big-hearted, small heroes, chocolate cake, love, danger, vomit, adventure, philosophy & mystery are all herein contained, leaving you with a childlike sense of wonder about the great beverage from the four (and fifth) elements.
