Adada geceler, karanlığın gözleri Rangur adlı bir korsana aitir. Ahmed Abto ahmedabto — Poetry - in the way you read once and wonder if there wasn't something more, something deeper you missed in the understanding and yearn to re-read - this book is pure poetry.

mkoszarecki
Marcin Koszarecki mkoszarecki — A fantastic book about life in a theocratic, totalitarian America. It assumes that the fundamentalist Christians react against the women's movement by militaristically taking over America and instituting laws that make the Taliban look like a swell bunch of guys. The book is written from the perspective of a Handmaid, which is a very specific role within the new system. As much as she hates the system, the heroine is not much of a hero, in the sense that she is a passive creature who is just trying to stay alive. If you liked 1984, you'll love this book.

mftvillafc93
Maria Fernanda mftvillafc93 — what an interesting biography. the blurb the cover exaggerates a bit though - i would not quite describe it as full of scandal, sex and illegitimate children. there are chapters on the basics - like growing up and in the end it chronicles the last weeks of the last surviving sisters married, widowed or single. it does give a really intense and interesting insight into the lives of privileged women. i am still touched by the idea that the king was so very glad to finally have a daughter with his princess royal. aaaaaah. makes one's heart melt. otherwise also very sad seeing they were so at mercy at their father's hands. and to spend basically all your life seeing your dear female relatives almost every single day of your life? not being able to travel? and not being able to be with whom you love? that must have been a sad life. ms fraser quotes extensively from letters which is highly interesting and the index is absolutely brilliant, sometimes you don't get one with these non-academic history books. the illustrations i liked too. more would have been better as several times she alludes to a portrait or other we don't get to see and are hard to find (for me anyway). some other points: it was also fascinating as in most other literature popular and academic the prince of wales is not portrayed favourably. in (most of) his sisters' accounts he comes across as more or less caring and considerate. mh. who'd have thought. it turns out again how closely england and germany have been "allied" by marriage "policy". almost every spouse was german. i had not been aware that the prussian princess friederike had married an english son of george III. ah! the one who took over the throne in hanover. and who seems to have been a right rascal. as another reviewer has said: in order to avoid flipping to the front continually do make a copy of the family tree at the front of the book. and then annotate while you go along or you will be lost (like me more than once). well. and there i have run out of things i can say about it. a good book. read it if you're interested in the 18th and 19th century and don't mind a bit of gossip.

Keegan Drake drakekeegaf036 — i thought the kite runner would be some really boring, political book about afghanistan. i don't even bother to read the back cover and find out what it's about since the front cover was really boring. but then, as time passes, this book kept appearing in my life; on my former school library and people reading it on trains and buses. the deciding moment for me to give this book a try was when someone i really like recommended this book. it was amazing. tears were falling from my face, and i wasn't even a quarter through the book that time! i found myself deeply relating to amir, the narrator of this book. for example, when that cruel act was done towards hassan, and amir did what he did, i understood exactly why. it pains me to admit this, but most probably i would've done the same thing amir did. and that realization left me feeling very unsettled. most of the twists was really unexpected, and i love that. makes me all the more excited. oh and i realized how some people used islam to getting their way, making up fatwas and rules. it infuriates me, and i know these people will always exist but i will never stop hoping one day they won't. 5 stars. no doubt. i would've done a longer and more detailed review but my favorite tv show is on. oh and my new favorite phrase is now: for you, a thousand times over.

fmunoz
Fernando Muñoz fmunoz — I poured through it in two nights. It was a little slow at the end, but overall, a good read. You can't help but walk away from this book without some kind of opinion of the author and the behind-the-scenes antics of minor/major league baseball. My opinion... The author flaked out too often when conflict was presented and tried too hard to blend-in instead of being a leader in the clubhouse. Despite his shortcomings on and off the field, I can believe every incident (despite the desrepancies in boxscores and dates) that was described in the locker room, on the bus, or on the bench. If you have ever played ball with a bunch of 17,18, or 19 year old young men, you know that there are few angels on the field. It was nice to read someone else's first hand account.
